Walker Half and 1883 Shield Nickel

Hello All,

Found some local road construction, Not easy hunting; I think they used foundry slag under some the sidewalks that were dug up, almost impossible detecting conditions

As always, finding a big silver is fun.

I think this is only my third or fourth shield nickel. It looks like it might be an 1883/1882 over strike.

Also found a flat button that was heavily damaged, some of the back mark is readable, I suspect this is 1820s or earlier.

And a very worn dime I found up in MN. I thought it might be Bust, but enough of the back is legible to rule that out.

I took a bunch of pictures of these with my USB microscope that I was going to post. It really does show a lot more detail, but the pictures are too big to upload until I figure out a good way to resize them.

Thanks,

Chris(SoCenWI)

The dreaded foundry slag brought to us by our benevolent Andrew Carnegie because he didn't know what to do with it except to give it away for FREE! And now, from his benevolence, to our ears, comes his dreaded gift!

For you to have plucked that wonderful Walker from that kind of soil is a tribute to your detecting skills. And I may say, Chris, with an Explorer.

GL & HH out there and Have FUN!
