Could this be done?

Would it be possible to build a metal detector pin-pointing device using a metal detector control box and a handmade coil pointer? It's not something I could do, but would it be feasible? Just curious...

There is a schematicfor a wand/pinpointer in Electronis projects for dummies.
Not 100% on the title, but it would definitely be a fun diy project.

Thanks. Sounds interesting. I'll try to look that up.

I sometimes use a Compadre control box which is very small and lightweigh mounted on a small homemade cut down shaft with the small 4'' coil on it,mainly use this when using a detector with a extra large coil, mainly for deep artifacts etc.Works very well, but of course a normal Compadre control box is hardwired to the coil so it can only be done if you have the 5 pin coil plug conversion.

Another option i guess is possibly using a 'SunRay' inline probe on a Garrett Ace control box,of course thats only any real good if you all ready have those items, but does seem alot of work involved making your own when you can use ready made items.

Displays on a Detector are really the equivalent of relying on sub-titles,give me a Analogue machine anyday.
