Has anybody found a product you can put on cable jackets to keep them from dry-rotting/deteriorating and cracking off?

Methyl Salicylate, AKA wintergreen oil. I read you could make a water mix with this stuff, heat it up and soak your cords in it. It is supposed to rejuvenate the rubber. I don't have the exact recipe, but it is easy to find online. Most likely will try it myself.

I have used Meguiars #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner for years on everything from automobiles to detectors. That stuff will preserve and protect all things vinyl, rubber and plastic. My detectors look like new and coil cables stay flexible and like new. Just try it and find out for yourself. I guarantee you’ll be impressed by the results.
