MXT Pro Undocumented 7-Tone ID

I posted this a few years ago but there are a lot of new MXT Pro / All Pro users since then so ....

The MXT Pro and probably the MXT All Pro have an undocumented 7-Tone ID feature in both Relic and Prospecting Modes. In other words, the 7-Tone ID feature for the Coin & Jewelry Mode can be used in both Relic and Prospecting Modes IF YOU DO THINGS A CERTAIN WAY.

This is the way it works. With the MXT Pro turned off, flip the MODE switch forward to C&J mode. Then, turn the detector ON and make sure "Musical Notes" button has Tone ID turned ON. Do your normal setup of GAIN, Discrimination, Threshold and a Ground Balance. Now flip the MODE switch to the center position Relic. Start hunting and you will discover the MXT Pro is functioning in Relic mixed mode with 7-Tone ID. You can even flip the MODE switch to Prospecting and 7-Tone ID will be on in Prospecting.

While using 7-Tone ID in Relic or Prospecting Mode, you can use the pinpointing trigger switch and / or adjust all of the knobs and switches on the control box without effecting the 7-Tone ID. However, if you press any of the buttons below the display, while in Relic or Prospecting, the 7-Tone ID will stop functioning in Relic and Prospecting Modes. To get it back up you will have to start all over.

If you decide you want to use the Ground Grab button or Backlight button while in (7-Tone ID) Relic or Prospecting Mode, flip the MODE switch back to C&J Mode and use the button, then flip the MODE switch back to Relic or Prospecting and 7-Tone ID will still be on.

I really like the 7-Tone ID in the C&J Mode. However, I prefer the more stable threshold that the slower SAT speed offers in Relic Normal mode. With the trick above I can have the best of both modes combined.

In Prospect Mode 7-Tone, I can coin shoot and prospect at the same time at a gold bearing site. The zip-zip sounds at different tones are interesting.

Good luck to All

I have been using this trick for couple years now and it makes an incredible differance. I like Prospecting with dual control turned to HyperSAT. I dont use pinpoint anymore but if you want VCO and depth reading you have to switch to relic before pinpointing.

Hi Diggindumbstuff,
Am happy to read that someone else uses and likes this trick. I prospect very little so thanks for the HyperSAT tip.

My pleasure. These settings are the only thing that saved my Pro. I was ready to move on to something else. These settings along with the Detech 6x8 really wake up the Pro. I will never part with my MXT Pro!
