"I got one of them". Yeah, where is it ? Weakly, he says , it's home, I forgot it. Really !
Woman watched me scoop a Stainless ring from wet sand. You going to get it back to the owner? Yep, his name is inside. Know
anyone named Tungston? She walked off.
You all heard----- What are you looking for? And number one, What's your best find?
All this usually takes place while trying to beat a incoming tide.
Happened once to me, couple years ago. I'm hunting chest deep. So someone on shore, wants to know what I'm doing. I shake my head, fake not able to hear him. Now he wants me to come ashore to talk. It was chilly. I took off my headphones, said you better come out here, can't hear you. He's gone.
Most people with questions, I advise to check things out on- line. From better qualified people.

Sometimes I wear my t- shirt that has M.Y.O.B . in large letters on it . This helps , but usually I pretend I dont hear them . - mike

Had a lady ask me why I did not give rings back to the owners. that was after I told her that I checked all lost and founds in my area. I then told her to take her wedding band off her finger. She did and I then asked her to tell me what phone number she had engraved in the ring. Then I asked her to tell me the address she had engraved in the ring. Since she did not have either of those engraved In the ring I asked how did she think I would be able to return her ring to her. I told her it might be three or more years before I would find her ring. She just shook her head and walked off.

I don't like the people that follow you around. I'm usually polite (maybe that's my weakness!) and after saying something like "I'm gonna get going now" or "If you stay close to the metal detector, it'll make you sterile"lol I'll walk away and there they are at the next target. Usually kid's will do this but there have been adults do this as well.

Trailer trash kids are the worst. Drunken parents aren't watching and their spawn are basically a step away from being feral.
My method of ditching them is to fake a signal in the swash zone, scoop some sand, then state, "well theres a gold ring or pulltab down there but its too deep for me to get it with my scoop". Never had one follow me down the beach yet after that ploy.

My question is that since I am an OLD Man (almost 77) why when one of those young beauties in their bikini that hides very little do they immediately upon walking up to me do they adjust their Bikini top. I am too old for them to be trying to impress. But I will admit that I enjoy the view.

I recall a time at a beach when a scruffy looking dread locked male biped approached while I was detecting.
He said. What are ya lookin for? I said. Coins and stuff. He asked . Is that a good detector? I said yeah mate it is. He said. What did it cost? I said. A fair bit. He said .Can I have it? I said No mate. He said. What if I just take it off yer? I said. ya can try mate but you are going to look pretty funny walking along the beach with a metal detector hanging out yer Butt.
He then told me what I could do with myself and said he was going to get his mates and do me and away he went.
I then left for greener pastures....No point pushing my luck..

I guess I'm a bit different. I enjoy talking to almost all of the people for a few minutes. Same questions over and over but hey, I'm here to have fun. I do spend some time with the kids if they are respectful and truly inquisitive. and most of them are. I once had a little girl and her brother come up and started chatting away. I was still swinging and hit what turned out to be a quarter. I had the little girl find it with her hands and she did. Told her it was hers. Now the boy wants one too. Hell, now what. Luckily I had another quarter in my pocket so when he wasn't looking I threw it in the sand and kicked sand over it. Told him next one was his. When I hit it he dug for it and the two ran off happy as hell. Having been a curator of a small rock and mineral museum where we had lots of kids come through on class trips I realized quickly that you NEVER know just how you affect a kid. Metal detecting is fun and sometimes rewarding, thing is there are other treasures out there to find too. Like two little kids running off with their "finds". Now if that was a gold ring I'd of been in a quandary. I didn't have another one of those in my pocket. :surrender:

I had fun detecting out in Majorca a few years ago when out in the sea, a group of bikini clad girls asked me what I was looking for, I said electric fish! I can still see the panic with them running and squealing out of the water, made me laugh.

I recall another time when detecting a play ground.
My daughter was with me and there was a couple of young clowns on push bikes watching from the perimeter of the Play ground.
They were jabbering to each other and then one of them launched himself and his bike onto the playground and steamed towards me. My daughter said "watch out Dad!"
This clown charged past swing a kick at me as he went past. I thought about giving his handle bars a bit of a tug as he went past but decided I didn't want to be paying medical bills for somebody else.
He shot past and I said " Well you would be a bit of a fool aye mate" and he yells back "Well at least I am not a Metal Man" And I yelled back. "You are not anything yet kid, you are still just turd riding a toy push bike."
He said a few other passing words and that was that.
I had a bit of a laugh to myself and continued detecting.

I usually try to limit myself to one lecture per hour. Kids can be unpleasant getting too close and sometimes reaching into the hole as I am scooping seemingly trying to lose a finger. I usually walk briskly up the beach and leave them behind though some seem to have no boundaries. So then I go out in the water a bit and that eliminates most of the rest of them.

Dew and George I am sympathetic. I had a couple girls come up and one asked me to 'do' the ring her boyfriend just gave her. I held up my coil and had her wave her hand in front of it. "Wow, that copper looks almost like gold! Has your finger turned green under it yet?" She looks. We laugh.

My best find? I tell how I met my wife. Ladies seem to appreciate that.

Looking for? Nothing, I am undercover on a stakeout. There will be a gang hit here in 20 minutes. Please don't blow my cover, you could get us both killed, just walk away like everything is fine...

Is that a metal detector? No, its an idiot detector please step back so you don't set it off.
