MX Sport unmasking

I just wanted to comment on how well my Whites MX Sport unmasks good targets in iron infested areas. I have been pulling out coins and nails out of the same holes. I have only had the sport for a week now and I have been using it with the stock 10" coil with really impressive results. The target ID and depth are also very good, I have been running it with the gain on 6 and digging 8 to 9 inch targets. Very good detector IMHO.

Just wait until you try the 6 shooter coil, it unmasks like a Bandido but with an accurate meter and lots more depth.

I use various analog detectors, knobs and switches rule.

It's a crazy deep detector. I'm hanging on the mine for now. Soil here in Boise is very mineralized. I just add beach to C&J mode or high trash and it knocks the hot rocks right out.

What do you mean by adding beach to C&J mode ? You use beach mode at times instead of C&J ?

You can add beach ground balance to the coin & jewelry mode, expands the ground balance. Or add it to the Hi-trash mode. It's in the settings when you scroll through them.

Can you explain in more detail how you do that? adding beach ground balance to coin and jewelry program? Thanks

Refer to page 24 and 25 in the owner's manual.

There are times its useful other than at the beach, but don't get caught up thinking that it's always going to be beneficial. There's a time and place for every function but not every function is proper for every time and place.

so while in C&J mode there is an option to turn on and add in Beach?? wondering though is that when your pretty much running the C&J in stock settings,,, and if so is there a way to fine tune those stock settings to achieve the same thing as Beach mode? just curious and just trying to get the hang of this machine....

for me its beeping all over the place and I'd love to be able to notch out certain digits and not groups of numbers,,, so in C&J I have the sens at 5, thresh at 2 for light hum, and last night had the tracking locked (per monte) I tried the tones at 2/4/8 and I'm only paying attention tot he high pitched tones and let me tell you my head is ready to explode after 10 minutes of wearing those headphones!! I dug three signals that said it was coins and I understand is ball park but one the GB was pinpointing 00 depth and I couldn't find anything I think it was a rock,,, 2nd was a old two leader cap and third was a lead wheel weight,, keep in mind I drilled this yard with a super tuned Tesoro but I'm hoping the MXS finds something the Vaguero missed but not yet...

I know this machine is special and I know I have to spend time with it so I'm not giving up on it for at least a year but so far this thing is HOT,, I think the only program I can mentally tolerate for more than 30 minutes is the hi trash, keeping in mind my other machines pretty much notched all that stuff out,,

one thing I wish this machine had was the ability to notch out single numbers,, like Gold 00 which just roars out of the speaker more than anything!!

wanted to ask if I get another coil would this machine calm down??? I found a 13" detech Ultimate DD coil forsale,, I was told to get a concentric too which I have my eye out for BUT only if it will make learning the machine easier

Tajue17, I doubt that getting a concentric will help tame this hot machine. I have the stock concentric on my MX7 and have issues dealing with the noise as well. I don't have too many problems finding good targets though. Usually when targets stay in the same category or adjacent category in one way and at 90 degrees, it's a good target and I dig it. It has been for me anyway... so far. I'm still learning it. I have been running C&J exclusively for now. Try discriminating the 0-5 category. I think gold 00 is for really small nuggets. None of my gold items have registered in the lower positive range when air testing. Even the tiniest of gold rings (almost looks like a baby ring) gives me 06-08 on the MX7.

Matt, do you mean adding the Salt Track feature (explained in the manual) ?

yes that is what he means I did it yesterday and it does quiet the machine down for me.... I spent more time with my machine yesterday and check this out I have already been over my yard numerous times and I did know there was junk out there but yesterday I decided to dig anything that signaled the same at the cross sweeps,,,,, I dug 1/2 a lawnmower blade,, a 1' section of casr (or carriage) spring, rusty nails, a wheat pennie, a couple brass things look like old cable or phone wire fittings.... so this machine isn't lying it is seeing stuff,,,,, I believe my experience is its just HOT..

question for the longtime users,,,,,,how many tones are you running and are you all locking the tracking and if so do you recheck a lot? do you use the SAT and VCO a lot???

I'm Just a short time user of MX7,but

I think the number of tones can be a personal preference. I am trying them all and finding I like the 8 tone and 2 tone the best so far( just 20 + hours). I use my GB tracking in low target areas like sand volley ball courts, but I lock most of the time because I am suspicious that it effects TID a little in high target areas. I check my GB some, but not that much because of my generally even moderate ground. I have found this machine is no wimp( I found 2 inch zincolns at 00 sensitivity), but can run it in high EFI areas in the 8-9 range. This is higher than my Patriot and Mojave. You do have to use the 1001 and 1002 sweep speed to keep falsing in check at these high sensitivities. In lower sensitivity 5-6 you can sweep faster. So far this has been my experiences, yours maybe different. HH

Guess I should clarify what I meant by adding beach (Salt Tracking) to Coin & Jewelry mode, sorry if I confused you. I called it adding beach is actually adding salt tracking, and there are times when it can be a benefit to ad salt tracking. Page 24 of the Users Manuel explains how adding Salt Tracking. You can add Salt Tracking to most of the search modes on the MX sport.

I was running the sensitivity at about 4-5 in Coin & Jewelry mode and was getting some ground noise or hot rocks sounding like targets. One small rock when I ran it under to coil gave a tone and ID. I added salt tracking without having to lower the sensitivity and the hot rock stopped responding. We have a lot of iron and other minerals in the soil around Boise ID. Try lowering the sensitivity, then raising it up until you start to get false tones or ground noise, then back off the sensitivity a click or two. I hope this helps make better sense for you now.
