GARRET CARROT - What sensitivity do you use?

Just got the AT a few days ago and am pretty new to metal detecting. I am curious what other owners are using as sensitivty. Ive been using the most sensitive setting (3 beeps) and have been using the rutune function to get closer and closer. Im thinking about switching to 1 or 2 though. I guess it depends on the location etc but just curious what you guys are using and why. Right now im mainly hunting parks and only digging shallow targets. Looking forward to your thoughts :-)

1 sometimes 2 sometimes 3,depends on the hunt. Whatever keeps the hole smaller. Less digging. I like to find my target before i dig. 90% of the time I can at least get a beep.

I stick with level 1, sometimes 2, as one should be able to pinpoint well enough that 3" is not required to find the target.

Seems I like 2 the best for shallow park hunting. I might try 1 again though. Three often picks up targets deeper than I want / am allowed to dig. I tried 1 for a bit but it seemed not to pick up the target from the surface sometimes. Maybe ill try using my machines pinpointer and use level 1. Anyway, thanks for your answers!

John,,

It’s not the initial pinpoint that’s my issue. It’s the depth of targets around here.
Up here on the shores of Lake Erie near Cleveland. There’s hardly a piece of un disturbed ground.
I will usually start at setting 1, no beep on my carrot ,,rescan and try setting 2 or even setting 3.
I’m just trying to get a beep , if I’m lucky bringing my pinpoint to a 1 inch circle, sometimes exactly on target.
Some targets even on setting 3 , I can not get a beep. I will usually run setting 1 . Though some targets at depth required setting 3.
Using a recently re acquired Sovereign GT,(bought it for my now deceased father in Alaska). Running the Ultimate 13 inch coil. I could not get a beep on my carrot , even on 3.
Ended up digging a very sweet sounding full ring and tail pull tab at 18-20 inch’s . Nope, my oll Garrett Carrot just couldn’t pull that rabbit outta tha hat ....

Swinging the Mojave in very heavy nails, 1 is just to much information. Goes off everywhere near the pinpoint. Luvin this sweet lil Mojave. Wish they made a SunRay probe for it.
The Sovereigns are nearly useless where you’d swear someone poured nails out of a bucket all over the ground. These are for the most part . Homes that burned or partially burned.
The Mojave is truly that good in the nails sites I’m coming across lately to warrant a probe costing more than the machine ... Sorry for the rant. I’m truly stunned by the the lil Injuns performance.

I have mine maxed out and manage ok with it. I like a lot the extra depth the carrot has over the original pro pointer...My original pro pointer had an extreme amount of use and never faulted.
My carrott also never faults. The decals were completely worn off on my original pro pointer . Worked flawless for years .and I sold it for almost 70% of what I paid for it new! ... nice...

I use 2.
But I don't use mine that often. I relic hunt.
I dig plug. Scan plug with coil.
If no beep on plug, I dig dirt and wave it over the top of the coil.
Repeat until I get a beep.

If I coin hunt. I use the pin pointer. Helps keep plug smaller. Especially in public lands.
