Garrett Infinium hot rodding

I just recently picked up a Garrett Infinium LS.

None of the boards seem to mention an issue with this detector where it continually beeps even when you just move it in mid air.

I figured out that turning it on slow and holding it away from any metal quietens the machine then I put it in lock and detect.

Any other way that is suggested gives me way too much false noise.

I also wondered the possibility of modding detectors. Powering off a 12v Lithium battery pack for a cordless drill?

What about the schematics for the Infinium. Has anyone been inside the unit?

I noticed 4 screw pots on the circuit board. Is there anyone on here that knows what they do?

Check out: https://www.findmall.com/list.php?62 for lots of info on the Infinium.

The most important step is to ground balance the unit before detecting.

There is one "mod" I have done and that is to open the unit and if there is a black wire
from the coil connector to the circuit board cut it or as I did un-solder the wire from the
circuit board. Tape or wire tie the wire so it has no chance of moving into contact with
the circuit board. This will also stop the false signals when the coil connector goes from
the air to the water.

Thanks, what does that wire do?

You know that thing is (or was) waterproof down 150 ft... :)

You can contact Garrett and let them check you ser number against service problems. I recall there being some earlier productions that were not compatible with the mono coils.

Make sure the coil and headphone connectors are clean, lined up correctly, and screwed tight. Also make sure the cable for the coil is secured and not wiggly, that can cause erratic behavior too.

I like mine, it's a good PI detector but for some reason the market just did not like the Infinium L&S.

There are still some Garrett training videos as well as others on youtube. If you do a web search, you can still get a little info but most has gone away (yet we can still find 5 y/o classified ads for stuff...)

There is also a dedicated Infinium forum on this board, you have to scroll down a bit to find it. Not overly active but a lot of discussion history...

Vanseeker, since you just joined this board recently, I don't know what your level of experience is, have you been doing this for long; is this you first machine or just finally getting around to a PI?
