In the mud again...short cold hunt with my oldest silver find

The last few months have been amazingly busy with no time to detect...finally got out for a few hours this morning. It is an old house site that burned down a long time ago. I was hunting in a part of the field quite a bit away from where we think the house actually was. F75, AM. Got a few odds and ends, nice little button, end of a pewter utensil, a 5 holed button that I can't tell if it is wood or not, but the prize was a 1786 Carolus III half real, minted in Mexico. By far my oldest silver coin. Wife says that happiness should last a few months till I feel the need to get out again....don't quite think so.

WOW! Really cool find. 1785 is way older than anything I've ever found. How deep was this coin? How big is it compared to a quarter?

It was around 7-8 inches. it is a very thin coin, 18mm diameter when minted, but the weight is comparable to our half dimes. my micrometer says this one is 17.7mm diameter.

I found 2 half dimes about a year ago and they really are small. That's one of the things I've always liked, and amazed me, is how hard the 75 hits very small targets. Once again, really neat find. HH jim tn
