Put an Omega 8000 Ver. 4 back in my Detector Team ... and a new search coil.

That was last week when the Omega arrived and I'm glad to have this Coin Hunting model around again. My preferred coils for those I had before were the 5" DD and round 8" Concentric off a Delta for more open areas. My coil preferences for 90% of my detecting, however, range from 5" to 7" and I wished there was a coil available for the Omega in that size other than the 5" DD that was coming with the unit. Here's where both good and bad experiences happened. Actually it was a Good Experience, a Bad Experience, then an even Better Experience.

Good Experience: Seeing that I was getting this detector package, 'clad king' sent me an e-mail or PM and offered to trade me a round Concentric coil for the 11" BiAxial which is a coil I don't like and never use. I said sure. Then he sent me a photo of the coil and said it was new and he had two, using one on his own Omega 8000. But the coil in the photo was the 7" Concentric with the oblong-shaped inner receive winding like that on the Teknetics DigiTec. But I remember reading that the DigiTec used the push-on coil connector, but 'clad king' said he used his on his Omaga and that I would really like it. So I said let's go ahead and do the search coil trade.

Bad Experience: The day we shipped coils I called TekneticsDirect and specifically asked to speak to someone who could answer some search coil questions for me. I told him I was trading search coils with someone who had two of the 7" Concentric coils like that on the DigiTex (a Teknetics model) and asked if that coil, the one that looks just like the DigiTec coil, had a screw-on connector? He said no, those are push-on coils. I then told him the fellow had two of them and used one on his Teknetics Omega 8000 and it screwed-on and worked great, but I looked on-line and Teknetics doesn't even show the coil for the DigiTec. He told me that they don't stock that coil and if I wanted one I would have to buy a DigiTec detector.

I asked a few other coil questions but didn't seem to get very good serve on that phone contact with specific questions, and asked where 'clad king' would have picked up two of those 7" coils with a screw-on connector. He said they don't make them that way. Needless to say, I wasn't satisfied as the guy wasn't very helpful.

Better Experience: We each received our traded coils today, and 'clad-king' was correct, twice. It does have a screw-on connector, and YES, I really DO like this coil! I'll keep I mounted full tike most lilkely.

I checked it out on my Omega 8000 and also on a new Fisher F19 I am selling, and it performed well on the F19, too.

You would think that an employee would know that the coil described with the screw-on connector was for a Fisher, but he didn't seem to have a clue and sure didn't mention it to me. This 7" Concentric is the standard coil o the Fisher F11 and is just perfect for me and my needs for using the Omega 8000. If you are interested in an accessory coil for an Omega or similar model that shares search coils, I suggest you check this one out. I only took it out for a short test run but enjoyed the experience.

I sold an Omega 8000 v4 that was brand new I received in a trade and sold it for a steal. I regret never trying it out.

Sorry I missed that sale. :(

The Omega 8000 Ver. 4 I just got is used but in good condition. One glitchy function but I can get it fixed, maybe, but it works fine for my needs.

I was going to order one of the brand new remain Ver. 4's in the Tek. inventory when they were closing them out, but $$$ was tied up at the time. I figure there must be a Dealer or an individual out there who still has a brand new, still in the box Version 4 Omega 8000 who wants to sell or trade it, so maybe I can get lucky and find a good deal to have a 'back-up' on hand. There's no perfect detector, and with my crappy health and mobility issues I get more enjoyment when I have a lighter-weight and functional detector in-hand, and the Omega 8000's were my favorite urban Coin Hunting detector for five years (early 2010 to mid-2015) and it's good to have one to put to work again.

Most of my hunt-time is spent Relic Hunting older, iron infested sites and I have other makes and models that excel for those applications, but the Omega 8K will travel along for Coin Hunting or working cleaner areas. I was out for a short while this morning with it enjoying fall weather temperature changes and using a detector that isn't s burden on my mending neck and shoulder.

In the search for a brand new 8000/V4....
