Cracked coil

My low freq. coil has a crack in it. I do not know if this is just in the protective cover since I do not know for sure if it has one though it looks like I could pry it off. Should I worry about it, try to epoxy the crack or leave it? Thanks,
Andy from Hillsborough

Looks from the picture that you do indeed have a cover on that coil. And the cover is cracked.

Yeah looks like a cover to me. They just pry off. I would take it off and glue or epoxy so dirt won't get in there. Two much dirt between coil and cover can throw the ground balance of a little.

Thanks for the advice. Is there a good non-destructive way to pry it off?

I am usually able to pry it loose with my fingers. I have fairly strong fingers due to my occupation through...LOL! If your not able to do that, you can use a flat head screw driver to separate it from the coil enough to pull it the rest of the way off. Be very careful though to not damage the coil or further break the cover. Some one else may have a "trick", but I don't really have one of those........just have to pull it off and it can be a pain.

I second that. I can usually pry it off with my fingers.
