There are a lot of Explorer owners out there,Making some great finds.
I have owned almost all of the explorers, and loved every one of them.
Had the XS,II,and SE.
I'll put it this way,I hunted, and i mean hard,a lot of places. And i am not an expert by no means.
and the explorers are great machines.
Found one or two silver coins last year.
I got an e trac and have found 5 in the last month with it.
These were from areas i previously had hunted.
Take it for what it is worth, the e trac is working for me.

I've never owned anything but Minelab started with a Sov then Explorer XS then Explorer SE Pro and now an Etrac. There is no question at all in my mind that the Etrac is the most stable and best all around machine that I have ever used. It's not deeper then a SE Pro as far as I can tell its just more stable and that makes it better all around. More stable makes the deep stuff shine thru. As for silver...Nothing like it

I too had this dilemma when the E-trac first came out...I took the gamble and opted for the E-trac. I've never used an explorer but I think I made the right choice.

I echo what Labrador Bob said. I own a SE for a while and hunted this area very hard. I picked up a E-Trac and found 3 silver dimes and two trade tokens with out trying hard. Then I got a Barber dime at 8 inches underneath tree roots. Best move I ever made. The SE nulled out more and the E-Trac seem to separates better.

I've never had an SE Pro but I don't think you can go wrong with either detector. It's simply a matter of using whatever detector you choose often and learning everything you can about what it's telling you. I would never say the E-trac is better than the SE Pro (or visa-versa). They are just two different detectors that do an outstanding job. You have to pick the detector you think will suit you. Then just get out there and master it.

I've never owned an E-Trac.....I have an SE with Pro Coil, and I am completely confident with my machine, and have a great deal of success with it.

You can't go wrong with any of those machines you mentioned. If you've got the extra $$$, get the E-Trac.

The key is whatever detector you decide to purchase, make sure you know it very well and are patient with it...don't get discouraged.

I had the SE and it drove me crazy. I certainly didn't give it enough time for me to learn it, but I think I might not have stayed with Minelab had it not been for the E-Trac. Out of the box, the E-Trac was easier to run, was more stable, and didn't sound like 6 violins in the same room, none tuned properly, all playing a different song.
After reading Andy's book, reviewing it, reading this forum, and practicing, I have now moved from the stock pattern and am using one of Andy's. It does make a difference. The biggest help to me, that I never would have tried, was pitch hold. jim

auto sens helps both machines alot. I have both of these detectors and if you run either in manual your gonna get the flutey noises unless you keep your sens really set low.
I agree with the capt, use it/stick with it and you will get great results from either one.

in everything give thanks

Advantages to both

I have both and feel that both are great machines.

I still feel the Explorers give you more info on a target which can be beneficial in a few instances. However, I do feel the E-Trac does separate very well and it is more stable, has a much better menu. Still heavy and the display angle seems tough to see (for me anyway).

I have hunted an area with the Explorer (grid pattern hunt) and came back and found silvers with the E-Trac but I have also hunted an area with the E-Trac (grid Pattern hunt) and came back and found silvers with the Explorer. So it is a toss up. Both are great machines. And too many factors to say why we find more silvers after huntign an area. Additioanl finds are often tiems more than just a new machien. (Moisture level/angle of approach/mood/noise/just missed it etc)

Which ever one you have or get, give it your 100% effort and confidence and you will find some great stuff. If you have never used a Minelab before then I would recommend the E-Trac. (ease of use/stability/menu)

I would also recommend using Manual Sens.. I feel Auto will rob you of depth. (even if manual is set to the Auto suggested level)

Good luck

Man o man, I love the fact that people on this forum seem so honest. I just, today, posted a mesage about: Which is better or what are your feelings on ETRAC vs Explorer SE pro. I'm kind of thinking here that they're both great machines but that the ETRAC seems to be a little more stable and seems to be the favorite on this run of responses. I own a Quatro, and I still think it's a great machine. I just would love to upgrade and have both numerical readouts for Ferrous and Condutivity, plus more other fun stuff like more manipulation of the audio responses, etc. I'm still a little torn after reading these posts, but I'm so happy that these responses seem to be so honest as to the pros and cons. Marc.

most etrac uses is former explorer users. if they buy etrac and start to find more coins, its because they are more experienced, after some time with explorer, but not because etrac much better.
I use explorer xs and dont see for my self any point upgrade. I know what this detectors can and cant do, they all have limits, quatro is the same. but if you want new buy etrac. good luck

Ron you hit the nail on the head. I have used explorers since they came out and they are really good. I got an etrac and thought it was very good also. I went over some hard hunted areas and found a silver coin or two. I have went back over some of the same areas with the Se Pro and found another silver or two. I think either detector is great but you have to learn the language of them to become proficient. Like Ron I think for what ever reason you just don't find all the coins in a given area when you go there with either machine. Just my .02
