Memorial Weekend Getaway Finds / Coins back to 1878 / Tokens / US Army Signal Batallion pin

My wife Terri and I went on a 2 night trip into Minnesota lakes country to a couple larger towns. Most of the finds are from that trip.
I reluctantly agreed  to be dropped off at old city parks and schools while she hit some thrift stores and flea markets. Temps hit 97 degrees on Friday.
Some of the parks had very few diggable signals and I had one 3 hour stretch where I didn't even pull a wheat penny but I kept at it and
ran into some oldies. The old park the nickels were found at was kind to them because of the sandy soil there. The 1897 Is one of the Sharpest V nickels I have pulled.
The Army Signal Battalion pin read just like a silver quarter. The deepest coin of the weekend was the 1925 Mercury dime which was 9-10 inches. My Ferrous numbers were all the way down to 02 on that target.
The Good For 5 cents token is an old pool hall and bowling alley token. The stamped "Soo Line" personalized token was very deep and was folded right down the middle.
Again the NEL Thunder Coil was my selected coil.

Coin Finds
Dimes are 1920,1925,1940,1947,1957
Nickels are 1889,1897,1902,1958
Indian Penny is 1878
17 Wheat pennies are back to 1916.

Non Coin Finds
Star Shaped Stamped "Soo Line" Railroad Token (back to 1916)
1960s US Army Signal Battalion Pin
Good For 5 Cents Pool Hall/Bowling Alley Token
Old Compact Cover (Elephant Design)
Bracelet (gave numbers like a half dollar)
Marble (bonus find while digging a target)
Security Suspender
Looped Pendant Inscribed "With Love Angela" on reverse
1980s LeisureCor Arcade Token
No Cash Value plated token (found at school where Signal Battalion Pin was pulled)
Large Thin Frame Buckle

Some great finds there FPD - Glad to see you are getting out. Sorry to hear that you are being unceremoniously dumped off at these Old Parks and Places by your wife while she goes shopping. How rude! :inlove:

Thanks again for the posts. Always a please and inspiration.

Nice finds FPD. That is a very unusual compact. Very nice. I think I may have freaked out digging that 5 cent token if it had come out of the hole that side up. The design looks like and was probably based on a shield nickel. Excellent token! Love the V's too!

That sandy soil is amazing....

Dave,

I've pulled IHs in lake country that were still copper colored. Amazing what good drainage does. Around Beloit where I live in Wisconsin also very sandy in places, but go East 30 miles and very heavy clay, most copper is toast.

Hope to get up your way soon. Curious what towns you hit, James seems to have cleaned most of them out.

Chris

Thanks Greg. I did dig the token face up and noticed it had a different look to it. Good eye on it having a similar design to a Shield nickel. I didn't even think of that.
Yes, that Elephant compact was a good 9-10 inches.

Hi Chris,
yes that sandy soil is easy on the coins.
No park is ever totally cleaned out it seems though if you have a ton of patience and stubbornness.
