Are You Addicted To Metal Detecting? If Yes, How Bad:drinking:

Do you have a daily craving to metal detect? Do you daydream of finding great treasure? Does metal detecting interfere with your day to day life? Does your spouse wish you would stop? :poke:

I can answer yes to some of these, and my wife is glad I have such a healthy hobby. So......the way I look at it:

1) I could have no hobbies, watch TV all day and pour on the LBS.

2) Take up drinking, or weed, or other drugs (real bad decision)

3) Except that I am somewhat addicted, and except the health and $$$ benefits. (good compromise) :)

Maybe you should join D.A. (Detectorist Anonymous) And, you might even see me there  I'll go first, My name is Jim and well, I am addicted to listening for audio signals and digging in the dirt. When I hear a high tone in the midst of iron, I really get excited! Then as I pull out a nice old coin, the addiction becomes even worse and I spend hours and hours in the field missing lunch and supper. Who would like to go next?

Fear is paralyzing and courage is liberating. No matter what is put in front of you, there is always a way to make it work.

Dreams are just dreams, goals are dreams with deadlines. The desire to succeed comes from within. Stay focused on your goals, and if people say that you can’t do something, get them out of your life and move on.

Yes.....My name is John. I am a detectorholic. My wife currently attends Alanon-AT to cope with her husbands weaknesses. She has learned to accept all the gold rings I give her with no guilt or remorse. (Psssst....she's getting a new Garrett for Christmas)

John,

being completely honest is the best way to deal with your "detectoritist" condition. Now please tell the group who that new detector is really for

For me it has changed over the years, It started as a Fancy and then changed to a hobby. It then changed to an addiction/obsession for many years and now it is a treat.

The real treasure is in the hunt...

Not me ..Never happen.....Garage..Bedroom..Car...I think one might have sneeked into the Bathroom? And those little round things that go on the end of them...I think they are breeding?..and the Ear warmers..that come with them...Have a pair of those for every occasion...Have to look good when I go out..O yeah..Lets not forget about those little beep beep sticks..That come in Orange..Black..Grey..Have a suppy of those to ..to go with different Headphones ..Have to be in style.
Then there is all these Different Tools for moving dirt.(I think some people think I am a Gardener?)..So if you where to ask me If I was ADDICTED..I would say NO...........One day ..I might get one of those Coins that says Sober free from Metal detecting..................................................But I really doubt it..............HOOKED FOR LIFE!!!!

Simple answer. YES! I let everything in the yard go to pot this summer. Well, not smoking pot but now I can't find my car.

Hi, My name is Rich, Nice to meet everybody here. My dad asked me what I wanted for my 12th birthday and I told him I wanted a metal detector. I picked out a Whites TR (1974). Metal detecting adventures have been a problem ever since.

This isn't an INTERVENTION is it? I don't see my wife, family or detecting buddies here.

Rich -

ps - I didn't realize that it had been 43 years since I bought my first detector. Dang, That means I'm more than 40.
