The lowest numbers on a gold ring that i have found was a 42, this was a large ring with several diamonds, so this program would not miss very much gold.

How do you know that the numbers are accurate?Targets can give different numbers depending on many factors. What about a very small gold ring at depth,at an angle, side on,ground conditions etc, etc.
To answer your quesion Tony,i would'nt trust a meter at all,let alone all these programs, but there again i'm old school.

What I've found with Gold jewelry is it hits all over the board.
Different size, Karat, depth, ground conditions, trash ect....
Differebt frequencies will change all the VDI's too.
What has held true for me has been the sound... very smooth and strong in both ways. (most times)
You just have to dig all that junk to find the good stuff...

HuntinDog,your last sentence still rings true for detectorists today......detecting is still hard work and you still have to dig junk if you want maximum success.
Vdi's are not totally accurate and if people rely on them they will miss good targets.....good post.

Good advice, the gold ring that i found came up as 42, but this was after i found it in the sand and i checked it to see what number would come up, i know other hunters had gone past this ring, it had been there for some time, i was hunting with a Deus and had the module in my pocket to protect it from the sand so i was digging everything, if i had been looking at the screen i probably would not have dug this, i thing others have pasted it up because it was an odd number.

I believe the Idea behind the gold program is not to waste time digging coins and other high VDI numbers but to focus your energy on finding just gold.

Hi IN DA HOLE,
Once when hunting a beach,i recieved a signal, that after a lot of experience with my detector, was definately a coin if the target id was anything to go by.I dug the signal and found the biggest gold wedding band i had ever found.Never before had a gold ring come up in this vdi range and if i had chose to ignore coin signals and just concentrated on the usual range for gold,i would have missed it.
Programs are only good if vdi's etc are accurate but they are'nt no matter what machine you are using.Gold numbers can overlap into other areas depending on many variables,so it pays to dig everything you are sure is'nt junk.
