My $2 lower shaft.

The phrases "I'm a cheap bastard" and "I hunt with a CTX" probably don't go together real often, but the price of their lower shaft (even @#$%&') is ridiculous so I thought I'd have a go at my own. Turned out pretty well. It's 3/4" PVC with some black spray paint and a section of square wooden dowel where the bolt goes. There's a slight flex in the pipe if I put a fair amount of pressure on it, but if you hunt with that much pressure on your coil you're doing it wrong anyway. It'll do for now - I've had it on for about 3 weeks and so far no complaints!

NICE, can you take a close up of the coil shaft connection
Does it lock in good with the upper shaft

Yeah no problem - will take me a little while here to get home to get the pics though. Let me preface the rest of this with the following: I could have made it look better, it was just sort of an experiment.

Even closed, the cam lock is a little larger than 3/4" so I put a single layer wrap of black duct tape where the cam lock is (yeah, it's duct tape, but you don't see it anyway because it's up in the upper shaft). The dowel is 3/4" square and is siliconed in place. I may change that depending on how well this holds up in the long run, but it's solid so far. I also had to include a nylon washer to go between the brackets on the coil to get the spacing right...again, aesthetically speaking it could be better, but I'm fine with it. For the shaft to accept the cable I had to use an angle grinder to open up the pipe a bit on the back half and then the cable just barely fits up through the pipe.

Far from perfect but it works as intended. The back could be smoothed out with a dremel tool and a few minutes of work.

Nice - I saw a guy using part of a carbon fiber fishing rod not too long ago but I didn't see this one.

Does anyone happen to know what the od is on the CTX shaft. I also would need to know what the minimum id is for the cable to fit through. I have a CTX coming and I'd like to begin manufacturing a lower shaft.

Dan it's 1 1/16 I'm looking for the best or closets size to this . the cable is 3/4 and that would be a tight fit to get it threw there better to leave this as large as you can . sube

If I have trouble threading a coil cable, I use a string to tie to the plug, drop the string thru the shaft and then pull the cable on thru. Saves a lot of cussin.
