I had 2 places lined up for today's hunt, but as I was driving over, I had a feeling I should try 2 other spots first. I gotta follow my gut more often it seems, because today it paid off. First spot gave up the US Army collar button and 2 rosies, at the other I found the Barber, 4 wheats and the silver St Christopher medallion. The second spot was the grass strip outside the zoo which was opened in 1898, the same date as the quarter The St Christopher has a name on the back "Willis L Saunders" US Navy, which I thought was very cool. It was down a solid 7" whereas the Barber was maybe 4" deep.

I went back to the site where my hunting buddy, Jimmy, and I each had found 1/4 Mexican reales yesterday. I decided to walk along the top of the canal and hunt the dirt that had been dredged out over the years. Within 30 minutes I score my first good target, another 1/4 reale, I couldn't believe it, 2" down. Half an hour later I get another 12-46, maybe 3" deep and out pops another reale 20' feet ahead and bam, another 12-46 hit and my 3rd reale of the day comes to light!! The reales were minted from 1833-1856, these are in very poor shape compared to the one I found Sunday. One of the reales is a semi-rare version that was only minted from 1836-1835, the figure looks to be wearing a skirt and the oval where the date is different from the others minted after that. I also found a couple more Mexican coin, both from the 60's. That's 5 1/4 reales we found in 3 hunts. The last 2 pictures are from the one found on Sunday. For the year Jimmy has 10 and I have 5, it does help living near the Southern border, these are the Southwest version of a large cent, being this part of the state was still Mexico when large cents were in circulation in the rest of the country.

The oddest find was the comic coin that was sold in condom machine back in the 60's as gag. It says "Chickens Get Laid" "Tails" and on the other side it says " People Do Too Who Aren't Chicken" "Heads"

Cmon man now you’re just making everyone look silly! What are you finding about the CTX that makes it easier to know that you’re over a good target? Anything about it that you don’t care for? I’ve only had mine for 2 seasons and it amazes me every time I go out. ML truly put out something that,in its entirety, won’t be touched in a long time. This may be a disservice to themselves but they did it.
Unreal hunting there Dan...

"What are you finding about the CTX that makes it easier to know that you’re over a good target?"
It's a combination of several things, sound quality of the tone, trace trace behavior, repeatable number pattern and tone. I don't go by the numbers religiously, but, I do use them as guide to see if they are consistent with the tone. Another thing I've been paying attention to is the way the threshold behaves, does it drop off, null or stay steady on multiple passes from all directions. I'm sure these are things that most of you guys are paying attention to. I really started hunting with the CTX in early spring, but, the last couple of months I've able to hunt quite often compared to the first half of the year.

This week, I have felt very in tune with the machine and very confident that if I pass over a good target 7-10" deep, I'll find it ( I know, I'm being a little cocky :) )

" Anything about it that you don’t care for?"

I'm sure there is, but, nothing comes to mind right now.

ML packed a ton of features into this machine and if they come out with something that out performs it, I'm in all the way!!

I just can't see the Nox, dethroning the CTX, I hope like hell it does, but, I don't think ML intended it to, we shall see.
