CTX modes menu...

OK, dumb question...

Is there a way, either on the CTX itself, or in XChange2, to change the order of the modes you have loaded? I know it sounds silly, but I just got a backup CTX and I loaded my programs onto it, but they all ended up in a different order than on my primary unit. And for the life of me, I couldn't figure out a way to re-order them...

Delete the modes from the backup and then reload them from xchange2 in the order that they are in your primary CTX.

That’s all I can think of also, start from scratch on the backup. I don’t know why they would’ve loaded in a different order in the first place,so you might have to get that ironed out if it does it again. Perhaps it does it alphabetically? Don’t know. I just looked at my machine for a bit and I don’t think you can switch them around on the machine itself. As Jason said,if someone knows, please post...and Steve, let us know what you found.
Also Steve...you must have a real liking for it already to get a backup! I will admit,it is that likeable!

I will try that, Joe...but strange thing is, they are not showing up on the CTX in the order I loaded them in....

Hmm...

IDX -- yep, I DO like it that much!

Here's the thing...I keep a machine in Oklahoma, and one in Pennsylvania, at my Mom's house (where I do a lot of detecting). I like my "primary" and my "backup" to be the same machine if at all possible, and I had been set up with two Explorers, one here, one there. HOWEVER, when one of the Explorers died recently, I had a choice to make. Get another Explorer, OR do something wild and crazy, and get a CTX.

After much pondering and debating with myself, I opted for the CTX (Joe's fault!) -- and was lucky enough to get a REAL nice one, but without warranty. So, once I saw how much I like the CTX, my thought was, what if this one dies? After pondering that for a bit, I decided it might be wise, if possible, to go back to the plan where I have both my primary and my backup machines both be the same (in this case, CTXs). SO, that's what I ended up doing -- and why I've had so much Explorer stuff for sale on the forums lately (including the last of my Explorers that I'm selling right now).

Then, once I get the Equinox, to use as a "complementary" machine to hunt in really trashy/irony sites, I should have all bases covered -- and be done buying machines for a long time! Primary CTX, backup CTX, and "change of pace" machine (Equinox) for certain specific sites. :)

The CTX is AMAZING. If the Equinox is amazing in its own way (and I expect it to be) -- I should be in great shape!

hello aurumpo

SInce You haven't been on this forum long enough yet I could not send a PM to you. This is a reply to what you posted in the "Ideas" over in the CTX Resource page. Since that is for ideas, I didn't want to start adding replys into it.

You can get your Modes arranged pretty much as you like with this method.

You may already know this about loading the Modes from the XChange2 to the CTX. If downloading Modes one at a time, the Modes load in a "stack". The first Mode you download will be the first on the stack. As you load more individual Modes they will fall down below and fill the first available empty "slot" in the stack. Example: if you have 3 Modes loaded, the next single Mode you download will fall down in the 4th slot. So now lets say, that after you loaded the 4th Mode you see the Mode in the number 2 slot is not the one you want there and delete it using the delete Mode function in the CTX. That leaves the 2 slot open, so the next single Mode downloaded will fill the 2 slot, not go to the bottom of the stack which would have been the 5 slot. This may be "clear as mud"...............Good Luck............

Hey C&RHunter, THANK YOU for this. I think I got it, from what you've said.

Since mine are all "out of order," it sounds like what I need to do is go into my CTX itself, and delete ALL of my modes, so that slot 1-10 are open. THEN, hook it to XChange2, and start loading them, IN THE ORDER I WANT THEM. I will try that; sounds like that will do what I want it to do.

THANK YOU! VERY helpful!

Let us know how that works out Steve. I may have to go through that myself if this works. I always just tried setting the order in XCHANGE and then batch transfering but they always wind up random with that method.

C&RHunter and Jason --

It works! Thanks for the tip, C&R. I did as you said, and it works. The key is, you have to have the slots "open" on your CTX, and then when you transfer, they go onto the CTX in the order they were transferred from XChange. The bizarre thing is, the way they show up on the CTX 3030 collection in the XChange menu, when you choose "CTX 3030," is NOT the way they show up on your CTX itself.

Since I wanted the stock "coins" program to be the first mode, I first deleted what was in slot one by choosing it on my CTX, and then deleting it. I then connected the unit to the PC, opened XChange2, and loaded the stock "coins" program from XChange2. Then, I disconnected the CTX and looked in the modes menu, and there was the stock coins program in slot 1. SO, I then deleted the rest of the modes on the CTX, except for the stock coins program in slot 1. Then, I re-connected the CTX to the PC, and went back to XChange2, and transferred the modes onto the CTX, in the order that I wanted them, so as to fill slots 2, 3, 4, etc. And then, when I disconnected the CTX from my PC, and checked the menu on the machine, sure enough, they showed up in the order I transferred them.

THANKS!

Steve
