First year with the CTX 2017 stuff!!

I started my year off with the CTX coming straight from the Etrac the previous 2 years. I hunted primarily public spots that have been hunted for years and are easily accessible to anyone that knows the area. This part on NM hasn't been heavily populated ever, 1800 people until the early 40's, founded in 1898. I did do a few hunts at a WW1 training camp, that's where all the buttons and weird buckles and whatnot's came from. The old coppers came from Old Mesilla NM about 70 miles from where I live. Most of the silvers came from the old zoo, an old high school and a few permissions. I did waaay too much cherry picking because my time was limited this past year, hence not many nickles or mid to low conductors in my pouch this Sooooo, my New Years resolution is too get back to the nitty gritty and go back with my new Equinox and clean up what I left behind. Pic heavy post.

Ehhhh, it'll do :) The Equinox has some really big shoes to fill. It's gonna be a struggle not using the CTX while I learn the Nox.

I knew you’d do well Dan. The NoX will have ENORMOUS shoes to fill, but we will see what it does. The greatest thing I can imagine is that the two compliment each other with some overlap, therefore combining the disciplines of deep silver hunting and gold hunting into one big long run of good recoveries. For me,or anyone for that matter,to expect the NoX to be as good at finding deep silver with good ID and trash in the hole is a lot to ask. But if it does a lot of OTHER stuff well, perhaps the stuff the CTX is “OK” at but not super efficient...that’ll be a match made in heaven!(Or Malaysia, depending on who you ask).

For me, the ability to cover more ground faster and the option to set my target breaks points are very exciting. Looking forward to a very interesting year. Hopefully more weird and cool finds to come using the Nox.

Nice finds DanN/T

Dan --

Stellar! Excellent job! You and the CTX are getting along quite well! I absolutely love mine, and it's only been about two months, maybe 10 hunts. Amazing machine. And to think, we are going to have an Equinox in our hands before long. WOW!

I agree with you, and IDX. It's hard to see how the Equinox could REPLACE the CTX, but I think it will do quite a bit of what the CTX does, and likely some things (separation in iron/unmasking, sensitivity to small gold, etc.) better than the CTX. They should be PERFECTLY complementary machines. And yes, Dan, I do expect some "weird" and "unusual" finds coming out of the ground with the Equinox, if for no reason than we will be digging some numbers, as we learn the machine, that we won't be sure at first what we are digging, and that always leads to some "surprises!"

Good times, good times!

Steve

Great Year! I searched thru the pics and did not see a NM tax token? I would have figured you would have dug a few of those, also older spanish coins, especially the Mexican silvers from the early 1900's. I lived in Carlsbad for a few years in the mid 60's, working underground in the Potash Mines for International Minerals. Didnt detect then, and everything was National Forest also. Parents lived in Abq. Often wondered if they ever tore down anything in the Old Town area? Could be some really great stuff there.

Also, we get lots of those Native American silver and turquoise rings here, especially from the 'Old Albuquerque Trading Post' (I think that is the name). One, a few years ago, was a bit more unusual, it had a 'jewelers mark' of a stick figure with an erection! I looked it up and sure enough there was a legitimate maker, "Brave with Erection'!!

Anyway, Great Year again, and I have the same anticipation for the Nox, lighter and faster with the same target ID ability.
