The industry seems to be moving more toward faster, lighter, higher frequency machines. Minelab may be taking that direction also. Could end up being a CTX in name only.

I think they call it the EQUINOX.

 I can ASSURE you that while I do not own an EQ,it is not a CTX! It may be “better or worse” depending on who you are,but it’s not a CTX!
Battery technology has to take another decent sized step forward before the processing power of a CTX can be fed by something considerably lighter. To make something robust enough to withstand the rigors of metal detecting and how they are sometimes transported/handled,it has to have SOME substance, carbon fiber or not. I have not had the misfortune of a battery seal failing or armrest lock not working,so I’m incredibly happy with the CTX build quality, along with its ability to find AND properly ID stupidly deep coins. There are specific aspects of the information the CTX gives me that makes it the only machine on the market for me at this time, heavy or not. Would I like the exact machine to be lighter? Well...yeah!

I question anyone that says "I dont have one, never used one, but know it cant work any better than the XXX brand.

Detectors are tools and as of yet no one machine does it all the best.
So you need to establish exactly what it is you need from a detector for what and where you are searching.
Do you need to ID a coin 14" deep? Or a a good solid audio report that something is down there enough.
Do you need it to be waterproof? Some like shallow water hunting.
Light in weight? We aint young weight lifters anymore.
Reasonable in cost? Not everyone can afford a multi thousand dollar detector.
Who makes it? Where do you send it when you need it serviced.

Did you see the part where I said “it could be better or worse” depending on who you are?.

Wow Willee, thanks for sharing all that knowledge with us. What does any of this have to do with a light weight CTX. I own and use both the CTX and Equinox. I don't see many similarities between the 2 machines. Why do you think the Equinox could be considered a light weight CTX?

About as much chance as seeing software updates for the CTX
