Hi guys!
I found my first gold coin!
A Queen Victoria half Sovereign - 1901.
It was found in an a freshly plowed field with my CTX 3030 and 11" coil.
The settings were:

All metal
Tone ID profile - Combined tones
Response - Smooth
Recovery fast - off
Recovery deep - off
Seawater - off
Target separation - Low trash
SENSITIVITY - manual - 17 - recommended 14
Gain volume - 15
Ground balance - manual.

The coin was 6" down. It gave a weak non-ferrous signal, and after removing the top inch of soil, the signal become clear with 12:19 VDI.

Nice one, I hope you find many more. I still haven’t found a gold coin but have scored a few nice gold rings.

SUPERB find! I presume you are in Europe?

Is the paper you have it sitting on in mm/cm -- such that it's about a 1.75 to 1.8 cm coin? If so, that makes it roughly the size of a U.S. dime -- just a hair smaller, in fact.

BEAUTIFUL find -- a bucket lister for most, for sure!!

CONGRATS!!!

Steve

Hi sgoss66!
Thanks for your comments!
The grid paper is in mm indeed. I am in England. Here are some photos of the coin parameters:

Just superb, vladorado! A most beautiful dig. A bit bigger than what the graph paper image seemed to show, at 19.3 mm. So roughly the size of a U.S. penny. SPECTACULAR!!

Congrats to you!

Great find! I was told by a detector dealer, several years ago, that I would NEVER find a gold coin. I hunt old homestead and cabin sites, so I hope to prove him wrong. HH

The gold coins don't come smaller than that one. The CTX3030 had no problem detecting it 6" down with the 11" coil. With the 6" coil it detects the coin as iron at 6" and non-ferrous at 5". With the 17" coil it detects it as non-ferrous target at 8".
Good luck!
