Battery or CTX Problem???

I had a full charge on my rechargeable battery, and then, with still half a charge on the battery, I got a low battery alert, then the machine stopped working. I'm trying another battery to see if I have the same problem or not. If it's the battery is it repairable, or, if it's the machine, is it worth spending the money to fix a six year old machine? Thanks in advance for any advice you have to offer.

Sounds like the battery is about used up. How old is it? Is the battery repaireable? Thats open to debate. Yes, the cells inside can be replaced, but it requires desoldering, and re-soldering cells and there is a tiny controller chip you have to pray you dont mess up. Thats after finding the batteries that fit. You wont get the full charge you did from the originals, but you have to buy ones that physically match the size or it wont work at all. Probably better off buying a new battery.

Before I spend $150 or more I think I would call and check some of the battery stores. I have seen those guys rebuilding power tool batteries when in the store. For someone that knows batteries well I bet it’s no big deal rebuilding them. Worth checking into anyway. Not sure if a low battery could pertain to the coin size battery on the board. If like a computer that battery is bad your machine would act dead and not boot. Wish I knew for sure! Good luck.

Unearth, I'm not sure if this applies to you or not but, I was just recently in the Gulf (salt water) with my CTX. I always use my alkaline pack just in case there is a leak. The alkaline pack wont self destruct like the NiMH pack. Back to my point. I had just placed a full set of batteries in the pack and went into the surf. In a matter of minutes the thing was almost constantly falsing. Then, I got a 'Low Batt' warning. I quickly returned to the condo to check for water inside. What I found was water in the USB port. I used some canned air and contact cleaner to dry out the port. It has not been an issue since. The battery pack put back on the CTX showed a FULL charge again. Evidently the salt water provided a path to load down one of the supply rails.

Check out CTX Prospector's video on YouTube. He goes thru the process of replacing the battery and recommends where to buy new batteries.
