My etrac is working great but I would love to get a CTX 3030. My dilemma is if I buy one now will an upgrade be released in a few months?

Since ML is once again doing their free 17" with purchase Christmas special, buy it now. No, there will NOT be an upgrade released. The upgrade was the Equinox.

Hey expll al,

I think it is reasonable to assume that Minelab won't be doing an "upgrade" to the CTX. I think their 2016 "upgrade" was it. I don't see them expending $$ and manpower to develope an upgrade to a six year old machine.

I think it more probable that at some point they will do another NEW machine with the more popular aspects of the CTX like the Target Trace system, the abilty to visually see multiple targets under the coil in their respective conductive zones, the FE-CO target ID etc. The visual aspects of the CTX are very popular and useful, and unmatched by any other machine. I would think any such new machine would be more of a land based, lighter weight one, as the NOX has proven to be a good water machine as expected.

How can the equinox be the upgrade of ctx?

I don't have a Nox but i have read that Nox is not good in ID, not good in discrimination, that you dig so much trash , i havent seen one single video where Nox is better than ctx. Just because it's lighter than ctx means it's better . Only thing i see better nox does it picks up more trash and tiny things that 95% of them are useless

Depending on your age and physical condition, although it’s lighter and nore balanced than the etrac, it’s still on the heavy side compared to the Equinox!

(IMO) it's unlikely they will do an upgrade on the CTX.-----Actually the CTX is heavier than the Etrac but it doesn't seem like it from using it (much better balanced).-------Yes, they are both on the heavy side compared to the Equinox.------I own/use all three of those detectors & feel the CTX/eTrac "compliments" the Equinox nicely.

The Nox is faster and better on separation, with easier to read screen and lighter weight. ID and depth info not as good (as Etrac or CTX) but you can learn to cope. The Nox does feel a lot like the cut-rate version of the successor to the CTX, which will no doubt have FE/CO and bells and whistles.

The CTX has options to lengthen/normalize the detection response. This causes some trouble if there are multiple close targets but really helps the mind work with the detector if not. The fast response of the Equinox is amazing but the IDs vary so much that with 50 tones it jumbles my brain. I was initially ticked off about the Recovery speed function - it just didn’t seem to do what the manual said it would. It is more of a manual tweak knob that you set for each coil and working condition - not really a preference setting like the CTX has. I think the detectors of today have good depth but the future is in signal processing and the ability of the user to customize the target response to what works best with their mind. No reason the CTX could not be put in the Equinox form factor tomorrow and have bluetooth instead of the unique data streaming method it has now. I might even modify mine to add bluetooth internally. The Equinox could even be noticably cheaper if they just leave out the wifi. Not many use it and it is a pain to use anyway as the RX module has to be line of site with the detector to work well.

If you're listening ML, put Target Trace on the Eq 800 and I'll immediately buy 2!

But I agree that you should get the CTX now for the 17" deal.

I just bought a ctx 3030 and it's great. I'm 70 years old and the weight is no problem.

Had my CTX 3030 w 17" coil for 2 years now and absolutely love it! I hunt for 5-6 hrs, 2 days/week and have no problem swinging the 17" coil. Sure, I change hands/arms every 1-2 hrs but did the same with my Excalibur. No need for an update for the CTX because you can't improve perfection. Bottle caps ? Gone. Nails? Gone. Discrimination with the CTX is second to none. And as someone mentioned earlier, dealers have the CTX on sale and get the 17" coil (a $400 value) free. BTW, my CTX has paid for itself many times over - last year found 13 gold and 27 silver rings (in 4 months of hunting). In 2019, to date (1/12/2019) have found 2 gold rings; one with .75 ct diamonds, and dental gold (7.4g). Unfortunately, my Excal is now gathering dust as my back-up machine. Happy Hunting

This exactly.

Especially after They saw their marketing success and sales success for the equinox. I believe they probably had a footprint of a ctx II or a next gen ctx so to speak, but that probably got sidetracked with the whirlwind from the Nox.

Think of the dollars they would make on a CTXversus the dollars made on a equinox 1000 and 1200 or something to potentially replace the etrac and ctx

The trap you can fall into...while waiting for the 'next great thing'...is that there will ALWAYS be a 'next great thing'.
(...and you will always be waiting for it.)

My feelings are, that it's better to get something now, and get out and hunt.
Others are finding (now) what you will be missing by waiting.

Whatever you choose, good luck, and HH,
:)

This is exactly the advice that was given re purchasing a computer in the 80s and early 90s.
Good advice then, good advice now.

Sounds like you are killing it with the CT.

I'm curious what mode you use and what the numbers come up as?

I've had my CTX for 1 1/2 years now (stock coil & Coiltek 10x5), and have found 2 gold rings so far?

Are you water hunting or land?
