I found the brass case of an old Barlow style knife about 5 years ago, the remnants of the blade(s) fell out during the cleanup. With no name or any marks and no luck finding a picture I punted, a neighbor makes knives for a hobby and I thought I would give him a try. This knife is not his style and was quite a challenge as he started it about three times and set it back, when finished it WOW 2 hand made Damascus twist blades named and dated. I left most of the patina on the one piece brass case.

Thanks Tommygun! I hope someone recognizes the case or has dug a similar one. I believe its civil war period or older based on the surrounding finds.
