Pliers were the best find of the day

Watched the Pelicans glide over the waves and dug some targets. Saw some people on the beach in bathing suits ... not me, 50 degrees F is a little cool for that for me. The pliers cleaned up enough with a water rinse that the jaws close all the way very easily. This pair is going into my tackle box.

Small thin chain found with AQ LTD

I rarely get chains, let alone this small. Was about knee deep in the wash and the AQ hit on this one. Did not come up on the first scoop but did on the second scoop. No good way to know how deep it was but it is heard well on the AQ in the air at 4 inces and fades out around 5 inches. It is...

    A week in Pompano Beach

Had nearly all the immediate family in Pompano Beach for a week. Water was calm and clear with wave intervals running from six to eight seconds of no more than one foot waves. I detected on four days for about three to four hours each day. The rest of the week was very busy with family stuff...

    Today's beach find

It will clean up very easily and has a great edge on it already.

    Little helper on the beach

Youngest grandson is staying with us for a couple weeks. He was helping me dig targets. We got the first ring of the year, a little junk ring but at least the beach is starting to give up targets. Targets have been few and far between since Ian went through. Was a beautiful day with lots of...

Pinpointers ... what are your current recommendations?

Since I've been nearly all water and beach detecting for a few years and decided to detect the yard at my new home only to find that both my several years old Garrett pinpointers did nothing when I put known good batteries into them; I quickly learned again that I sure could use a good...

    Off season hunting is here

This time of year in this area, I'm not in the water. When I was in Maryland, winter in the water was very productive, not so much here so I look for low spots at low tide in the wet sand and sometimes sweep the towel line. Has been very sanded in since Ian went through. Just starting to get...

    Shark tooth

Little bits of cuts are forming ... hope it continues and gets down beyond the soft sand that the weather has been depositing. Was about thigh deep in a cut and saw this shiny black object go swooshing by in a wave headed for shore. Turned towards it and watched it reverse direction. Got the...

    Found in the water

Almost gave up on digging this one. Looks like a lid to an Urn ... a first for me. The underside is threaded.

Anyone have some insight on these markings?

Got this ring and can't make out the markings. Almost looks like they might be mirror image ... ???

Was such a good AQ day I had to post some finds

Was out for about 4 hours around low tide with the Impulse AQ. Found some soft bottom cuts in the water then found a cut that had a hard shell pack bottom that was holding stuff ... maybe a hundred feet long and thirty feet wide that at low tide was only knee to waist deep. Spent nearly all my...

    benefits of retirement

Friend sent me this. Replace "fishing" with "metal detecting". Now I can go during the week when the water is calm; can pick low tide times to go, etc.

Some deposits are starting to show up

Got to the beach three times over the last week or so. About three hours of detecting each time. Twice with the Excal and once with the Impulse AQ. One ring per hunt. The black stainless steel spinner and the white tungsten band were Excal finds the 10k gold was the AQ.

    Tooth Cap

Today's beach find. Unfortunately, while all the detectors are here, the gold test kit hasn't been moved yet, neither has my scale; so I don't have test results or weight for this peice.

Spending time learning AQ LTD discrimination

I've been hunting nearly all in all metal mode with the AQ. Thinking back to a trip I took specifically to see how the AQ handled a beach filled with hot rocks; I figured it was time to really learn the discrimination capabilities. One thing I previously figured out is that it is difficult to...

    Beautiful beach day

Upper 60s; little breeze; lots of porpoises just off shore and pelicans soaring. Not many targets but did get a couple of smalls; unfortunately junk. Was a great afternoon on the sand.

    Dimes

Over the last few years the percentage of targets I dig at the beach that are dimes has increased. I see a lot more people using an Equinox on the beach. I'm finding fewer quarters, still finding nickles and pennies but dimes have gone up to be almost the same count as pennies. Don't know if...

Thrift stores continue to give up gold

The little ring was marked and priced just under what 1 gram of 14k gold would go for ... I guessed it was closer to two grams and bought it. The other two were not marked but both had been resized and I took a chance based on heft, color and that someone thought it was worth it to resize them...

    Thrift store gold

One of the thrift stores we frequent had a box with a couple dozen rings in it. $4 per ring, what ever they are, doesn't matter. There were several sterling rings that just did not have enough mass to spend $4 for. Then this little gem was spotted:
