Six Silver Day Without a Detector.

I took a shirt back to Walmart today and passed the Coin Star on the way, but it was empty. After returning the shirt, my wife and I did a little shopping. On the way out we passed the same Coin Star again. This time there was a handful of coins in the return tray. I scooped them out and when I...

    Silver coins

I have been blessed, in my 50 years of detecting to find just about every denomination of US minted silver coins. All of the coins seen in the following pictures were found by me either in Maryland or Georgia. One exception is the twenty cent piece that was found by one of my brothers, most...

    Silver and gold

My buddy took me to a well hunted site this afternoon, but I managed to pull three good finds in the 4 hours we were there. About 5 minutes after we got there I found a 1789 half real, then about 20 minutes later I got the 1838 dime.About 30 minutes before we quit I found the small cuff link or...

    Dawson Blank

This is known as a Dawson Blank. It was for a Dickson and Nelson carbine. It came from an old warehouse in Dawson, Georgia. Dickson and Nelson are better known for their Mississippi rifle copy but they did produce a carbine as well, although information on it is scarce. This is what I have found...

    Upgrade to the Deus 2?

I have been using my Deus 1, WS5 with the 11" X35 coil for 8 years now and am still on the same set of batteries. But, I am considering upgrading to the Deus 2. In the opinion of those using the Deus 2, is it a worthwhile upgrade?

My luck is still holding out.

I went back to the same site that gave me the Republican Blues button and managed to pull a Dragoon button, small flower button, glass button, 1821 capped bust dime and a 1789 Real. Not too bad for a 3 hour hunt. All told this year has been one of the best I have had in almost 50 years of hunting!

    Republican Blues

My buddy Kevin invited me to hunt with him this afternoon at a freshly plowed and rained on site.My first good signal was the front to an Infantry cuff button. Then I got into some trashd so I moved to a different part of the field. The spot I chose had been hunted just yesterday but I found a...

    Estate Sale Finds

I went to an estate sale with my wife this morning and bought several books and a Notebook. When I opened the notebook the title page read "Confederate States of America paper money". I thumbed through it and thought it was empty until I got to one page. There were six notes on the page. I took...

Literally the last target of the day

A good friend invited me to hunt with him today at a site that has been hunted hard for several years. My first two signals were 42 and 44 wheat cents. Then nothing for about 3 hours. Finally I made it back to my truck, took a couple Tylenol and rested for a few minutes. My buddy was in a...

Can anyone tell me what eagle button this is? it is 15mm. I have never seen one with 12 stars above the eagle's head. I have been told it may be from a kepi and from the 1870-1900 time period but I can't find another one like it.

    Any Deer Hunters here?

I thought you might like to see a few deer from the National Forrest in North Georgia. My son sent these to me. One of them even came down off the bank and started toward his vehicle but my son's dog barked and the deer just turned and went into the woods. No hunting allowed!

Anybody here with the last name of Griffin?

I came across this silver plated jewelry box at a yard sale and actually bought it for the contents. After polishing it I noticed the Name "Griffin" etched in the top. If anyone here that has that name would like this box let me know. I have posted this on other sites and it is first come first...

    Coin Star today

I took my wife to Walmart to pick up a few things and heading toward the exit I stopped to check the coin star as I always do. I saw some coins in the tray but I also noticed about 10 dimes laying on the floor. All total there was $13.60 in dimes and 4 pennies. Two of the dimes were 62 and 64...

Some more relics from my brothers

Here are two frames that were left to me. The second frame is of 21 .69 cal and 4 .58 cal bullets that were found in the same hole near Antietam battle field. The two U S buckles in the first frame were found on the same hunt by two of my brothers.

    OK, here are some buttons

A little backstory on some of my relics. I m the last of five brothers and inherited what was left of their collections. A lot were sold by my last brother to make ends meet. I understand his doing that, I just wish he would have given me first shot at buying them. A good part of what s left was...
