Dug a nice 2 piece buckle today

Hello, all. Went to an old house site in Central Virginia today and at first dug the wreath part, then a foot away the tongue. Really cool! Research shows it to be a C. 1905 US Army Garrison Officer's two piece belt buckle. Looks like it was once gilded. It doesn't have the magical CS letters...

From the fields of Dinwiddie Co.

Hello, all. I haven't posted in a while, so here are some of my recent finds. It looks like some Yankee cav rode through the spot Frank and i hunted... .44 round balls were strewn everywhere, ended up with like 30 of them, a couple of matching spur buckles, a pair of matching shoe buckles, a...

A couple of decent hunts lately... Julius Caesar and some silver too

Hello all. I managed a few hunts lately a few miles east of the North Anna battlefield in Beaverdam, Va. The ground is pretty warm, stony clay, so digging wasn't easy! My first good find was part of a nice thick brass musket buttplate [not pictured: don't have a good camera] and it slowly...

Some of the good things i've done for our hobby -

Hello all. I started detecting back in 1982, and have seen just about everything. I've dug used hypodermic syringes, THOUSANDS of nails, spikes, glass shards, all manner of wire, bottlecaps, pulltabs, jagged pieces of rusty sheet metal, broken ball and mason jars, old shovels and hoes, and threw...

A nice snake from the past

Here's a nice large size 37 mm x 87 mm approximate snake buckle from the past i came across in my many travels - even has the keeper with it. It could be a later model, but it's still neat. Thanks for looking!

Any ideas about this small brass stud?!

Hello all. I acquired this odd little stud years ago at the Richmond, Va. relic show. I've been told it's a blue jean stud from the 1950's all the way to being a Mississippi or Texas unit saddle stud - and everything else in between - i've seen only a couple of others like it over the years, so...

    A nice pair of AVC'S

Hello all. Here is a nice pair of Alabama AVC buttons - a coat and a cuff - that i have in my small collection. The coat size has gold in all the right places and bears the pre - war Scovills backmark. The cuff size was alledgedly recovered on Culp's Hill many years ago, and bears the Horstmann...

    Some more cool digz!

Hey everybody! Frank and i just keep hittin' the old beanfields - we're bound to hit it big sometime! There's a few yankee .54 cal. sharps, a nice hi - base sharps, and even a spencer or two. There's no way of getting around the flatbuttons, it seems they're always there. The big brass buckle is...

We braved the cold rain today for some SWEET finds!

Hello all. It drizzled cold rain almost the whole time we were there today - been waiting quite a while for this particular field to become available. I dug this SUPER SWEET 1827 dime and WT SCARBOROUGH 10 cents store token, a broken rifle sling piece, several flatbuttons, sash buckle pieces...

A really weird thing happened yesterday - maybe we can figure it out.

Hello all. I was gridding a known mild ground farmfield yesterday under overcast skies, and making some good finds. The sandy loam was nice and moist. Now, i'll admit that i run my Tesoro Tejon full wide open, the ED180 circuitry is just screaming, but is well ground balanced - a bit positive...

A short & sweet hunt in dinwiddie co. today

Hello all. I took a couple of hours in the 66 degree heat and recovered some nice finds... a 1942 merc, a 1918 merc, an ate up "V" nickel, two belt studs, 2 .44 cal. bullets, a nice .58 spencer, a shot .54 cal. sharps, an overalls button, and 2 flatbuttons. Best day i've had in a while. Sure...

    A few hunts lately....

Hello all. Here are the results of a few hunts i've gone on lately. Work and home obligations coupled with the fact that good spots are getting hard to come by have all taken their tolls this year - but we're gonna keep on gettin' up anyway! Some of the older spots Frank and i are hitting are...

"Young man, would you weed eat my yard too?!"

Many years ago, probably back around the late 80's, i was detecting this very old victorian houses' yard and making some pretty good finds... a few indian cents, a seated dime, and a few buffalo nickels here and there. As i was sweeping right along, i noticed an elderly lady watching me...

Two decent hunts near the lines of '62

Hello all. Been awhile! Frank and i headed out to a new spot near the 7 day's battle lines east of richmond. We came away with a few nice relics. That sure is a tiny thimble. There's a lead pig bar, 8 flatbuttons, 3 and 1/2 bullets, a large and small roller buckle, and a really old harmonica...

Detecting near the Drewry's Bluff Battlelines

Well, i can tell ya one thing.... We are detecting a hotly contested piece of ground near the Drewry's Bluff battlelines! We've only dug a couple of dropped bullets there. A rare CS shotgun slug surfaced yesterday, as did a .69 minie [ both are seldom found around here - usually hafta go north...

My last three hunts with Wes and Frank

Hey everybody! My last three hunts with Wes and Frank have been pretty cool. We all recovered a slew of relics. In the third pic center, is a cuff staff ring - and right beside it, the remains of what looks like a 10mm kepi button. The nailed indian cent is 186? but it's a fatty, being a cw...

A good start for the year!

I've had a couple of good hunts this year too! An old colonial buckle, a spur buckle, a dozen or so bullets... and cents from 1928 to 1958. I believe that's the first musketball to come off the old farm we been hunting for a couple of years now. I'ts always a surprise to dig great seal buttons...

'Twas a good year part 2

From a three hook yankee beltplate [ rough, but it's the real thing] , Colonial and CW era Rosettes, buckles and other brass, a colonial seal, some interesting bolo ties, a hundred or so buttons, a mess of bullets and p caps found in the same hole....apparently the contents of a bullet pouch...
