Coil Identification and target question.

background
I purchased a x-terra 70 a few years back when i lived in California along with 3 coils. Two 9' and one 10.5 DD. I had big dreams of hitting the gold fields and beaches.

I took it out about 5 times but being new to it i had no idea how to set it up. Then life got in the way and my detector sat for a few years. Now in NY i want to get out there and do some digging.

Question1. The markings on the coils do not indicate what frequency or model they are. How can i tell? Is there a menu function to tell me what frequency the detector is running at?

Question2. I sat up the detector as the video from minelab showed. I placed a penny and a quarter on the ground but it would only detect it from a max height of 3 inches away. I put on my 10.5 coil and same thing. I set up the ground balance, the sensitivity with no improvements. I ran it over an extension cord that was coiled up in the yard and it didn't even see it in A.M. mode.

Is it possible the detector is weakened now? Any ideas? I set it to factory default when i started.

The answer to #1 can be found here. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,1597706

Not sure about #2 w/o a little more information about your setup procedure.

To tell the difference between the two 9" coils, just hold them, or weigh them on a set of kitchen scales....the 3kHz will be heavier (that is, if you cant find any markings on the coils). With regards to the second problem, there may be something under the ground (or above the ground) where you live that is interfering with the signal from the detector...you could check this by going somewhere some distance from where you live and test your detector again. Perhaps even try a couple of different places in different areas. Have you tried doing air tests inside the house. Could be worth a try to see if the results are similar.

that once you set the threshold/noise cancel, volumn and sesitivity....to push the pinpoint button to get it in pattern mode and out of menu mode. This same thing happened to me when I first got it.
Tried to send you a PM but it kicked it out.
