That's really all-encompassing, Bill. Looks like you've got the makings of a book, or maybe an encyclopedia...!

Hope all is well with you.

Thanks Bill, doing well, waiting for spring. Hope you're getting some swing time in out there.

....for putting together a nice compilation of information.

My first stop was the YouTube XTerra 70 DVD's. When I got my X70 in July, they sent the X30/50 Video instead. It was helpful, but the one for the X70 is more complete and "chock full" of good information.

Thanks :clapping:

If you want to add the X-30 / X-50 Tips I wrote a year ago, or the new one I posted today on the X-70, you are welcome to do so. HH Randy

I read through them before I got my machine and I jusr re-read them again and picked up a few more pointers. Thanks, Ron

I have just joined the forum, look forward to communicating with everybody. I just bought a new 70 after a fifteen year hiatus from metal detecting. Some questions I have as I am trying to warm up to my new detector. I have swept over things and get a 46 accompanied with a very faint shrill beep, further sweeping will sometimes get the same faint signal, but no locking on. the depth arrows were pegged, (how many inches do those depth arrows represent) I did not dig ,and now wonder if i made a wrong decision? will a deeper target sound fainter? This seems to happen quite often, high initial tid and sound but no locking? I know there should be silver where I am hunting but so far have only found clad coins. Any advice on what I am doing wrong if anything? TIA Steve

Thanks for the effort of compiling all the info...very informative and all encompassing...
I find it very useful...Thanks a lot man...

God bless

Hi, I have a question about the 705 x-terra on prospecting mode. i have the dd 18.75 coil and i realize you can adjust the threshold tone. when i hit on iron should my detector make a deep low tone or a sort of high tone? because i get a high tone.

Page 70 in Randy's E-book addresses your answer far better than anything in the factory manual.

Questions like this should be asked in the open forum.
In part, because you're more likely to get a variety of answers, in part because some there might have the same or similar questions, and frankly...it's not a "frequently" asked question.

I purchased my Xterra 705 before I really knew that much about it. I had decided on a Garretts AT 350 until my local MD dealer took the time to explain several different detectors features. I Was taken by the Xterra's ability to change frequently by just changing coils. After he offered me a great price on the 705 I put it in layaway. I returned home and started researching my purchase on another forum. After making a comment on a thread thanking them for explaining a question on coils I Was told about this site. Now I can say this is the most informative site I have found. Thanks Tom!

Ok I know this post is old but I have a question . Here in Michigan my exterra 70 detector sits for six months so every spring I get out the manual to refresh myself . I noticed in all three patterns the # 48 is rejected . Why and what would be rejected by it ,

Doug

Ok , thanks. Seems strange that iron would be on both ends of the screen scale of our units. It's no big deal I was just wondering.

Thanks for the reply , your friend Doug.
Ps: if only spring would get here, 6 month of no detecting is a bummer.
