Found my First Old Coin

Just got my Exp. II on Monday. Took advantage of a warm Pa. day.Trying to figure out what it's telling me, I was using settings I got from the forum. Getting frustrated, I went back to factory settings and hit a good signal.A 1805 Draped Bust Quarter. It's very worn, guess from acidic soil. Sorry no pictures. What's the best way to clean it up without damaging it?

Thanks Jim, found it about 50 feet from my front door,in the yard.I scanned that piece of yard numerous time with my 1350.I think this is quite a machine, cause Idon't really feel comfortable with it yet.

Congratulations on your neat find. Jim gave very good advice and I can vouch for it by experience. Lost Approx. $400 on one this summer according to the dealer. Your pictures are going to be neat to look at when you get a camera and I'm sure we can't wait to see them. Just think what you have to look forward to if your first one is an 1805
WOW!!!!!

let me guess some ass told you to hunt in -16 stay in your stock setings get used to the sounds only thing to mess with would be your sens. try man not auto start at 20 thats probably safe any where always use noise cancel and youll clean up use deep and go slow dig only solid signals get used to the sounds ,turn your gain to 8. but that is a great find congradulations

I'm really jealous of those who lives in a history rich area :) Great find!

Now, imagine how much more you'll find when you hunt like the pros in IM-16 with a Sunray X-12

All kidding aside, hang in there. It can be a little frustrating in the beginning but it gets better. Stick with anything you're comfortable with until you get used to all the sounds. Just curious, what settings were messing you up?

Thanks Joe, Iwas using Charles Rock Solid Setup from Mike Moutray's Website.(mikesweather.metsite.com)After reading more on this forum, I realized I had an unstable machime. Mysens. was up at 25 man. I was really lucky. The thing that amazes me, is I've scanned that area two or three times with my Gar.1350. The coin is really worn and you can just make out the head. But the date is in pretty good shape.

Thanks Bunn,I'm also having trouble figuring out what depth the targets are at. Or is it just a guesstamit with the depth indicator. I'm still amazed 25 cents was alot of money in 1805

Hey, that's a great find for your first time out! As far as settings are concerned, don't discount any of them... experiment, have fun and eventually you'll find settings for various conditions that work for you.

Now, let's see a pic of that coin :)
