G2- the ultimate soccer field machine?

I really enjoy hunting soccer fields. I was considering adding a cleansweep coil to my Cibola, but I was wondering if the G2 would be a better option for jewellery hunting? I think I found out my first year detecting that I like finding jewellery than old coins. (Yes, I know the G2 can do well on coins for what it is as well)

Either the G2 or GB Pro with the 11 inch coil are great. I prefer the GP Pro handle over the G2 style. That's what I use on the local soccer fields. The reason is they are fast sweep so you can cover ground pretty quick. They don't generally suffer from EMI problems even at full gain. When you hit something good they have a real hard audio hit. Bad targets just sound more mixed or mushy. They also hold their own on coins and are adept at hitting coins on edge and multiple coins. The key is how hard the audio hits and repeatable VDI. Good stuff locks on hard. Junk jumps around both audio and VDI. The biggest challenge I have found is bottle caps. Those can be sorted out pretty well by wiggling the tip of the coil on the target and listen for the low tone.

I'd think the Gold Bug Pro/G2 would be WELL suited to this for you. When I hunt such a place, the Gold Bug Pro is my detector of choice. It loves to find small jewelry (but also small foil bits, etc. so you will dig some trash).

The G2 is excellent for jewelry on sports fields -- fast and quiet. I wish someone would make a 3 x 18 size coil for it. If Tesoro would make their cleansweep coils for other detector brands (even if they formed a new separate company), they would make a very large profit.

I the GB had a larger narrow coil it would surley rock even more in my Opinion.

Do you find most targets around the perimeter where teams and spectators stand, or just random all over the field?

Ever catch any flak for being on the field, digging? Or, do you find that most targets are near enough to the surface that you don't really need to dig, per SE?

I find jewellery on the sidelines and sparse targets in the center. Hit the high schools instead of elementary and middle for better finds.

I am a random walker on soccer fields. I have found jewelry all over. The fields around my area get moved or turned sideways to help prevent wearing out the grass in certian areas. Players lose stuff while playing. The sidelines tend to collect good stuff along with a lot of tabs and other trash. Sometimes there are areas where medals get awarded and pictures taken after tournaments and I have picked up a few things in those areas. I normally do well with the 11 inch coil since the trash isn't as bad as the typical park. I really wish someone would figure out how to make the sweeper type coils for these machines to help cleanup the surface stuff more efficiently.

As for digging I am careful to dig flap plugs and don't do it in areas where the grass is dry. That way it has the chance to repair itself and not create a hazard for the players or dead spots. Normally the sprinkler systems do a real good job but in the off season I have to watch it. No one has ever given me flak.

Jimbog's post is what I've experienced as well, some fields are rotated every so often. Finding the "lanes" where the trash is seems to be is a good place to start. I swing the F70 which is somewhat similar to the G2. I dont dig, except with a screwdriver, I found 6 silver rings on one field, highschool, on the sidelines. one silver necklace random in the playing area, lots of weird toss coins, good luck coins, or whatever, mostly foreign. I've been approached by the caretakers, and they appreciate the screwdriver, trash pick-ups, car keys returned, etc.
Demographics have changed, Soccer is now the sport of choice, whereever the moms sit, any available shade, bleachers, parking, concessions, sidewalks are primo spots. You can use Google earth to find sports fields in your area, or even Mapquest, just put it on sattelite view and have a look. You can plan how to hunt it, and see where the most likely spots are from the eagle eye view.. Lots of your finds should be shallow,eye, and possibly bills blown up on the downwind fencelines...Soccer field hunting is really a profitable place for us..Good luck!
