Flat button found where CS troops were at a battle site. The front is plain but the back has an odd looking eagle. The shank is broken and was off-centered.

Here's another picture of the previous button.
P.S. Sorry but I still haven't figured out how to post multiple pictures. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">

Pre Civil War; Civilian. Commonly used by CS troops throughout the war. Also called; Penny button, Flat button and Coin button. Good hunting, David @ Dixie <center><a href="http://www.dixie-metal-detectors.com"><img src="/metal/html/d-m.jpg"></center>

Ive got one like that... dates from 1820-30 period, probably British made... they put eagles on the backs knowing the US love affair with the eagle... my guess on date is from other backmarked buttons found in the same site
