River Camp Finds.

Found these brass things at a river camp. The one on the left looks like a topper to a flag pole, It still has some old wood inside. Any Ideas?

This is the 2nd Georgia State Seal button I have found at the camp. The scabbard tip was a first for me.The thermometer has a date just were it is bent over, All I can make out is 186? and new york. Not to bad of a day considering the heat index was 105 and the bugs were out to carry me away!

Iceman: your first picture: Item on left is belt holder for flag. Color Bearer put loop through his belt. Don't lose the wood. Looks like you found the whole thing. In your second picture I think the thing you are calling a thermometer is actually a spring scale which is commonly found in campsites. Rations were measured out with these. These are wonderful finds. Keep it up.

Did some research and got a couple of answers from other forums. The brass thing on the left is a calvary flagstaff or Guidon holder that loops thru a belt. Wich makes alot of since, Because the area I found it in was used by the Georgia 7th Calvary or the Georgia mounted Militia as they used to be called. The brass thingy turned out to be a very interesting find! I have found alot of relics in this area and it never stops turning things up...It's sad that within a month there will be houses on that spot. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">
