Sniper coil unmasked these two...

REVIER

Well-known member
A pretty sharp 1919 wheat, a not so sharp 1917 merc but still beautiful to me.
I have been over this area a lot, tons of iron, no solid signals left at all so now I am going after the iffier stuff but still trying to avoid digging everything.
These two show me I am on the right track.
Shallow, 2-3" each, but masked badly and I missed both several times in the past but not this time.
Still learning different target behavior in my strange soil than in the normal stuff, I believe I just learned something new to add to that knowledge.
Never give up...Never surrender.

Anytime you get silver it's been a good hunt. Sounds like that sniper coil is something I'm going to ask Santa clause for this year, just to many targets are masked in all the junk that I'm missing.

I have been over this exact spot dozens of times, found some old wheats, a buff, some modern clad and a few what nots.
Used the big DD, the concentric, a Compadre, a Vaq with a sniper and even the sniper on my F70 before.
This time I slowed way down to a crawl, used my maxed out blast through all metal settings plus I listened and watched the screen close to see if I could notice any odd behavior I did not notice before because there are no more good dig me signals left in this small area.
The new behavior I noticed was kind of like the regular iron signals I get around here, high numbers with drops to iron but nothing stayed in the higher range with few drops like other deeper good coin targets I have found but there also weren't as many drops to iron as actual iron has most of the time.
Hard to explain because there are a bunch of things I look for hunting here and not just one indicator but a combination of many and I have been doing it long enough now that it has become instinctual.
What surprised me is how shallow they were, coins from 1-3" are usually not this skewed so there was probably some iron deeper around these targets also or something else was messing with me today.
I must have noticed something different that was important because I dug the wheat, skipped about 7 or 8 other iron like signals and then a few minutes after I dug the wheat I decided to dig this hole with the dime in it which did not meet my usual digging criteria but was just different enough like that wheat signal was.
I would have been very happy with just another wheat, when the silver dime popped up I was a little shocked...and then thrilled.
There must be a million more signals around here with actual iron but maybe some of them are these same type of shallow signals instead that I have been skipping.
When I learn I dig a lot more trash so I guess a bit more of iron digging is in my near future as I practice and hone this stuff but hopefully it will open up my hunting grounds again.
