surfscan motion pi

hi can any one give me some information regarding the surfscan motion pi i cant seem to find anything on it i know its one of erics machines but thats were my info stops does any one know if there is a field test or some photos or even roughly about what age it is i am just about to buy one but would like a little more info

Hi Ian,
The Surfscan looks much like the Beachscan 2 and the Goldquest SS. In fact is the same case and the same basic circuit board, Although the SS has modifications to give it higher sensitivity to small targets and an improved coil.
The Surfscan had sealed controls and either a waterproof coil connector, or the coil was wired in through a seal. Phones were waterproof too.
The Surfscan was discontinued due to the unreliability of the case seal if the unit was submerged. Often this was lack of user maintenance to keep the seal clean when changing the batteries. However, even a drop of sea water in the electronics can spell disaster. The case is fine as a splashproof and weatherproof housing, but not now recommended for submersion. Having said that, some people have used them for years in the sea, without problems.
The Surfscan was last made around 1995 and if you are buying a used one, check that it is working and that there are no signs of corrosion on the electronic parts inside the box, or white salty looking stains on the circuit board.

thanks eric very informative im buying mail order and been assured its in good nick apart from scratches on the cover which i believe is translucent do you think 150 pound is a fair price
in your opinion i no you cant answer for other people but i really havent a clue as to the price when new or the going rate now
