TikTok. What do you know about it?

I didn't know anything about it until AOC started bragging about TikTok flooding the Trump campaign with nearly a million requests for tickets to Trump's Tulsa Convention. :drinking:

I still don't know much about it, but I'm helping to educate others with what little I DO know.

A Special Agent who works mainly human trafficking and sex predation cases where I used to work had this to say about TikTok:

" Shall I begin to mention just how many cases I work that involve TikTok? From Human Trafficking to Child Pornography, it is certainly one of the most utilized apps by those wishing to participate in and hide criminal activity. "

I wonder who all here in the states donates money to TikTok?

The Special Agent quoted above also supplied this link:

" TikTok has facilitated a space for sexual grooming by abusers or potentially sex traffickers. These exploiters utilize TikTok to view minor users and either comment and/or message these minors, often requesting sexually explicit videos or pictures. An advocacy group accurately called TikTok a “hunting ground” for predators to abuse children and Forbes identified TikTok as a “magnet to sexual predators.

For these reasons, TikTok is being named to the 2020 Dirty Dozen List. ""

Most of the social media that attracts kids have been used by traffickers. Sad fact. The other reason to worry and TikTok is that it is Chinese owned. As such, it will be reporting information (cookies and metadata and maybe more) to data farms that the Chinese Government uses artificial intelligence (AI) to mine information for their own nefarious purposes. Another sad fact is that Google continues to help the Chinese government with improving their AI skills while Google has refused to help the US government on a DOD contract that they won. They backed out of the contract when employees revolted over possible military use of their AI skills. One of the several big tech company hypocrisies going on. Google uses their AI expertise to help Chinese government persecute their own citizens yet won't help the US keep soldiers safe.

I did not know ANY of that, tvr.

All that being true, then China could have been complicit in interfering with Trump's Tulsa Rally.

I like the internet for actually being able to have almost instant information on just about anything ,, but wether it is all true ,,, I'm still skeptical of. But I honestly believe it is doing more harm than good for mankind. Social media is really hurting society I believe. I remember years ago ,, that the computer, and the internet was referred to as " the mark of the beast " . I'm not as spiritual as I should be ,, but I believe we are on our way to being another Sodom and Gomorrah. And we all know how that ended. But this world cannot survive to long in the direction it is headed. I believe things will get so bad ,, people will be committing suicide just to escape it ,, or praying for the Rapture.
With the way people are these days , I just don't see anything, or anyone ,, being able to unite people to come together for the better of humanity.
I am not the most eloquent linguist ,, but these are just some of the ramblings that roll through my mind occasionally.

Exactly what I've heard. Chinese owned and most probably a spying tool. There again, most social media platforms spy upon our every move. Privacy?? That's a thing in the past, as we all carry a smartphone that vastly surpasses computers just a few years ago.

Greg,
In what I have been reading so far, while they could have been they were not actively complicit. What they do with the pool of user data at a future date may be another thing. We (the US) had been focusing on mitigating Chinese intellectual property theft and Chinese spying under George Bush until 9/11/2001. Within a month after 9/11 George Bush pulled all those resources and put them into the war on terror. My opinion is that both efforts needed to happen. After President Trump took office, efforts to slow Chinese intellectual property theft and spying were stood back up. Too bad Google chooses not to help. Google also filters results based on a political slant. I have found DuckDuckGo provides a much more diverse (more complete) list of things to view on political topics.
