Well I got my first load of Quatro's in. There is an advantage having my office located 2 miles from Minelab's corporate headquarters.
I was wondering just how easy is this machine?
First thing that struck me was the nice box it came in. Now that may sound strange but as a dealer, it is nice to have a clean appearing box WITH a handle.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01662.jpg" alt="" />
I looked at my watch it was 1:14 pm. I wanted to see just how easy this machine really was.
Aha, looks good !
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01663.jpg" alt="" />
Nice clean lines. You need a pair of scissors to cut the three wire ties that hold the machine in the box, snip, snip, snip pieces are loose.
Lay it on the floor to make sure everything is there.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01665.jpg" alt="" />
Now I have an advantage over someone who has never put together a Explorer before, because the Quatro assembles the same way. So I didn't need to look at the instructions.
Put the nut and bolt in and attach the coil to the lower shaft.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01666.jpg" alt="" />
After opening the cam lever on the mid shaft, with the lever pointing down, feed the lower rod and the cord into the metal mid shaft, and push the carbon fiber shaft up inside the mid shaft.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01667.jpg" alt="" />
Feed the end of the coil cable plug up through the mid-shaft, plug it in to the main processing unit. Make sure the long end of the mid shaft is pointed down. Make sure the lever on the processing unit is down and open ready to accept the mid shaft.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01668.jpg" alt="" />
Now insert the mid shaft into the processing unit, and close the lever to lock in into place.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01669.jpg" alt="" />
Adjust the lower fiber carbon rod and make sure it is a comfortable length for your heigth. Close the lever and lock the lower carbon rod into place.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01670.jpg" alt="" />
Open the battery pack and install AA Alkaline batteries.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01671.jpg" alt="" />
Insert the battery stick into the back of the unit.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01672.jpg" alt="" />
Take a screw driver and slide the arm cuff up or down to suit your comfort level and tighten the one screw to keep it in place. Turn the machine on.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01673.jpg" alt="" />
I took it outside into the sun and took a Glamour shot. Excuse the bungee cord, it's from the Swingy Thingy.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01675.jpg" alt="" />
Hit the coin button and noise cancel. This machine gives you a read out as it searches for a clean channel while the noise cancel steps through it's program it shows you the steps completed in percentage. Sort of neat! I love the big numbers.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01677.jpg" alt="" />
I swung the detector literally 4 times before I got a target signal. I have no idea what the numbers mean, I haven't even opened the manual, however, there is a picture of a coin there!
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01678.jpg" alt="" />
Now I always get a chuckle out of people that cannot pinpoint. Especially in trashy ground! There is a real simple solution to pinpointing. Kick the coil up against the back of the shaft, and simply sweep back and forth with only the edge of the coil. You will pinpoint right on the nose.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01679.jpg" alt="" />
Because I know how to pinpoint, I know I don't have to take a big clump of dirt. I know exactly where the target is!
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01680.jpg" alt="" />
Break the clump in half, and there it is:
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01681.jpg" alt="" />
It's only a clad dime Time right then was 1:36 pm, and that included the time I took taking pictures.
<img src="http://kamakazi.com/forum/quatro/DSC01682.jpg" alt="" />
Only 22 minutes from box to holding the first coin in my hand, and I had not read the instructions, had no idea what I was really doing, but I saw that picture of a coin on the screen so what else could it mean? Included in that 22 minutes was the time I took to stop and take pictures !
This machine is going to be a winner guys and gals.
It is going to be the "Explorer for Dummies." And don't take that the wrong way, I like things simple. This will give the experienced Explorer user a super user friendly machine to use when they are not hunting specialized situations, like a farm house yard filled with old roofing nails.
It's also going to allow the wife's and the kids to have a top end detector that is so easy to use, it's child's play!

Nice post Doc I like the pics.
Looks like the quattro Is going to bridge the gap between the sov. and the explorer quite well.
I like simplicity it gives you more time for hunting.

can you tell me if the quattro has gain control?
thanks.

Hi Doc
I received my units here on the East Coast this morning. I was impressed with the box, and the secure packaging. I like the way they tie wrapped secured the coil to stop movement. Far less damage in shipment this way. Certainly a big change from the early original Exp.

Does this have the rechargeable battery pack like the Explorer or will we have to mess with the AA batteries all the time.Also,is the power requirements the same as the Explorer as the battery pac looks the same?. HH Bob
