Bright spot in a slow hunt

Finally melted some of the 6 inches of snow today and with the temps above freezing I headed out for a few hours this afternoon. The first site has produced little in the past but is old and was in beans this season. But after 2 hours of gridding, I had lots of stuff and not one keeper, so I...

    Interesting find

Looking for the rest of it LOL Taussig and Pollock were in business in the early 1850's selling leather goods, this is a second issued buckle. HH Jeff

    A couple nickel finds

What reads 12 on the Manticore? A 3-cent nickel does. This 1873 hit hard in all directions, sure was a surprise after all the "stuff" I had dug. The 68 shield had some nice detail as well. These pasture coins survived a lot better than what I find in crop fields. HH Jeff

    CS button

It only took me 51 years of detecting to find one and this one come with quite a story. I have been all over the country looking for anything marked CS Virginia, Carolinas, Louisiana but I found one right here in my own back yard and at my great X3 grandparents' homestead. The half dime and...

Been a long time since my last Morgan, pre Minelab days even. I was using a Whites 6000 di pro to be exact. Interesting enough this pretty well wraps up all the different denominations of American coins for the Manticore { except for gold and a 20 center} I have all the different cents, 2 cents...

    Spring Fling

I took time to spend with the next generation of detectorist this weekend. Just gave a hand full of wheats, Indians and 2 gold dollars a toss in the short grass. She is 6 yrs old and a veteran of many hunts and it shows with a total of 46 coins in 20 minutes. He is 4 and had a dozen in the poc...

    Fun weekend with old friends

Drove 5 hours to hunt with Dick and Jim on a few sites they researched and obtained permissions for. We hit a home run on the tokens with a total of ten, a one dollar, a fifty cent, 7 ten cent ones, and one nickel. The horse shoe watch fob is different and was gold plated. Not sure what the...

    Manticores first gold!

Tough hunt with lots of target but not many keeper so I was glad to see something shiny pop out of the clump. The collar stud was in 2 pieces about a foot away from each other, so the ball was lucky find. The No 4 crotal bell is always a welcome sight and its a ringer! Knapsack hooks don't come...

    Manticore scores a gold!

Sure was surprised to see something shiny come out of the black dirt. Old English script reads F. R. The ball stud was about a foot away at considerable depth so it was a lucky find to locate the second half of this collar stud. A No 4 crotal bell followed by a knapsack hook and then a toe tap...

Not pictured were all the scrap pieces. I...

    Manticore meets a lady

This one has been eluding me. Don't get me wrong I have been having lots of good finds and some silvers, but the seated dime was a welcome sight. Sniffed this one from the iron it read 79 80, nice high tone. This 1870's house has been hunted several times by multiple machine and 2 different...

    First seated with the Manticore

Finding lots of goodies with the Manticore but this one has been eluding me. Same M.O. as before, old homesite hunted it multiple times different machines multiple people. I know a site is never hunted out but....this many targets, only one explanation. Note the rust from a chunk of iron on the...

    Oldie but goodie

Some interesting finds this week hunting previously hunted sites. The cuff is a Rifleman in the first picture, pretty rare in my circle. Nice bit of jewelry in the fourth picture. A trio of coins that are in exceptional condition for my area, they are usually toast. 65' on the 2 center, 68' on...

    Manticores first trifecta

Managed a tough trifecta with I think the shortest run coin out there at just two years, a flying Eagle. A '30 Wheaties and a '97 Indian and a '57 Flying Eagle round out the trio. The Manticore Id'd the Eagle at 39 40. Learning the correct sweep speed to interpret all the signals in heavy iron...

    Trifecta makes cents

Managed a tough trifecta this weekend. A '30 Wheatie a '96 Indian and a '57 Flying Eagle in better shape than the other 2 combined. The Flying Eagle read 39 40 on the Manticore. All three were found on previously hunted sites. HH Jeff
