I don't think most people could make a living from it to be honest. Having said that some are rich from metal detecting , a lucky very small percentage of detectorists.Nice haul! Brings up that old age argument: can you make a living metal detecting?

Depletion of good coinage finds on my sites has started to hit yes. I am digging more low to medium conductors now on my coin depleted sites in the hope of hitting a gold ring , gold prices are very high at the moment.Back 10 or 12 years ago I used to average some where between $900 to $1100 in pocket change every year as well as a silver item almost every hunt.. I would tumble twice a month , dump the good stuff in the bank lobby machine and the zincs in the coinstar at Walmart. I have roughly 70 pounds of copper pennies in coffee cans that I don't know what to do with. Today , detecting in the same City dirt parks , I seldom break $1 and find decent jewelry maybe every 6 or 7 hunts. Enjoy the good hunting while it's there , technology is destroying the recharge rate faster than it's improving the machines.
A funny thing about that,,,,,I'm sure you have heard the "dig everything" theory and I tried that a few times in Al infested areas around picnic tables and under lights but it never turned up anything as well as digging those unusually good harmonic low conductive signals , especially with the etrac. What I have noticed in the last few years is that areas where the Al trash used to be extremely heavy , the low conductive signals have become less dense , telling me the lack of finds has people going to the dig everything theory just with the hope of making it worth it. It's really not worth it anymore unless you have remote sites or beaches nearby and making it pay as a retirement income is a pipe dream without meeting the conditions I mentioned before. I see numerous people post pics of handfuls of pull tabs but very few report finding a gold item in the process.Depletion of good coinage finds on my sites has started to hit yes. I did that once, dug everything around a park table with benches, took a couple of hours. Reward was a thin 14 k ladies band. It fit my daughter in law so I let her have it. Guess what? Yep she lost it! Any way u can still do ok skimming the parks, last year I raked in a little over 400 dollars. The good old days are just a memory. It was A rough winter and after the long wait for the Manticore I was lucky enough to find a 14k white gold ring first time out. Also picked up a Deus 2 getting ready for What I hoped to be a good year again. Then I broke my right wrist last week in April. Maybe June I can get back at it Like others low conductor will be in my sights..A funny thing about that,,,,,I'm sure you have heard the "dig everything" theory and I tried that a few times in Al infested areas around picnic tables and under lights but it never turned up anything as well as digging those unusually good harmonic low conductive signals , especially with the etrac. You would have to include the money you save by not going to the gym? Ha haI don't think most people could make a living from it to be honest. Having said that some are rich from metal detecting , a lucky very small percentage of detectorists.
I feel like i am ejaculating good feelings , every time A Gold Ring Comes out of the dirt. The feeling of pulling gold out beats it. The rush of euphoriaIf I was in it for the money I'd be one hungry dog, I usually don't find enough money to paid for breakfast at McDonald's.
I metal detect for the trill of the finds and just enjoy getting out and enjoying the fresh air.
If money was my motivate I can get a job in less than five minutes making over 10$ per hour, that would be hard to beat metal detecting.
Heck. I remember being able to buy a real quarter pounder. Like in their adds. Large fries and big chocolate shake. And still have change from a buk.If I was in it for the money I'd be one hungry dog, I usually don't find enough money to paid for breakfast at McDonald's.

Any pre decimal coin is basically worth it's scrap value , they are best weighed in for scrap , i got silver ones , loads of silvers that are old but no one wants to buy them. I stopped hunting for pre decimal a long time back.Coin Magician,
Where do you exchange the old pre-decimal size coins ( old 5p/1s, 10p/2s, 50p)? I have a bunch, but the Royal Post would not take them my last time in London in April. They did take the old pound coins though
