What settings are you using in salt water & wet sand? Can this machine hit small chains? Great deal from BBH!

All salt water beaches are different. Here is how I run my CZ's on the beaches of NJ

1 - ground balance in all metal, bobbing method

2 - Run in discriminate mode 0

3 - Sensitivity in the 4-5 range ( this will vary depending on conditions)

4 - Volume at 8-9 ( I use headphones with volume knobs when running my CZ6a's, so I like to have the CZ volume up). When running my CZ20, volume is at 6 but I may up it if there is a lot of wind. I always run above 5, so the boost is on since I want to hear all targets at the same volume over the waves and wind...I don't need modulated audio at the beach.

As far as small chains go, the CZ21 is locked in salt mode, so it's ability to hit small gold is diminished. It's not good on small chains. But it's darn good on everything else !

Mudslinger. Been thinking about getting a new water machine and have done lots of reading reviews and threads on the CZ-21. I will pm you a link to a real good read on just this subject.

Dak

Great Thread! I have a AT Pro which is great on small Gold. I threw a small 14k chain .87gr on the ground & the CZ didn't hit it at recommended salt water settings. I grabbed the Pro & it hit it solid, I said whoa, but that thread cleared it up.

Hello all Name is Dennis, I have an AT PRO and am very much concidering the CZ1 Dak would you mind sending me that info also PLease. I need a good salt water machine. But also LOVE this AT PRO Thanh You

I won't comment on the AT hitting gold. I have YET to hear of anyone finding a gold chain underwater with an AT on ANY of the forums I am a member of. Air testing is one thing. Actual finds is another.

I have only found one chain with the CZ and it was a large one. I have found at least 6 by eyeballing them while diving and digging other objects. I will never by an AT for diving because sooner or later I will drown it by going too deep. I get enough rings with my CZ's that I am content.

Gold is a unique metal and its properties fool a lot of detectors. Sure I don't want to pass up any gold BUT thats just the way the cookie crumbles with the technology we have today. The CZ is a tank, well built and a wonderful machine.

Thats the main drawback of the AtP...10' depth...sure I bet they'd hold up to 15' maybe even 20' maybe not...so that leaves you with going with the detectors made for +100' depths with about nothing in between...

I found two gold chains wading with the Pro last year..Fresh water....It will hit them, one was a 15g 10k and the other a monster 75.4gr 24k...the little one sounded like foil, and the big one sounded like a couple of tabs..I'm sure just about any detector would have got the big one, I just happened to be at the right place at the right time, and, I hunt for chains...on dry ground the signal holds on for 8" plus ...not sure about the little one..as I think back it was down in the sand on the bottom maybe 3".

That said I also need a machine that does salt/fresh really well, and we know thats a multifreq like the CZ21 or a PI...

Dak I wonder if you could send me that link about the cz21-I would appreciate it thanks joe- or if easier just post it.

I've had lots of fun with my 1225X since the mid-80s. My cz70pro has been impressive, but is a concern when trying to keep it from drowning when water detecting. Am now adding a CZ21 to my collection and am interested in learning more from others who have used one. I'm thinking it may work on land, as my 1225x and cz70 have worked very well. My ear is tuned to the Fisher tones, if you know what I mean!! Am looking forward to reading and sharing information about the CZ21 with those of you who are interested. Thanks for the chance to be part of this topic!

You might want to start a new thread to get the answers you like. Also let us know if your hunting fresh or salt water. The CZ-21 is a GREAT machine.

Dak...sorry to ask..but could you link me up with that info too please...mahalo... Mike

Hi guys I am new here.
Just want to find out what is the best underwater metal detector. Is it the Fisher CZ21???

That's a good question, much like asking what's the best land detector...
As many detectors there are, rest assured you will get at least that many answers.
What you are looking for is the best water detector for YOU.
To help you find that detector, one needs to know what kind of hunting you do, freshwater or saltwater, et
Try running an internet search on specific detector comparisons and check out Theue Findmall beach water scuba forum and see what the water guys are using.
I can tell you I use the cz21 and am very happy with it. I have also used water machines from other manufacturers wilthl good results also.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide.
Cheers
