    Thanks for your reply. I really have no clue, as to why it's movable, but your suggestion does hold merit! The corps in the civil army were assigned colors , would they have looped a sash or decorative colored ribbon through this to display which regiment they belonged to?

    Civil War PIN? Anyhistory would be highly appreciate. From my research this looks to be a pin for the Army of Potenac. The centre of the Maltese cross has no enamel or design from what i see.
