Anyone modify a vanquish making it waterproof yet?

Don't want to buy another detector.

Anyone modify a vanquish making it waterproof yet?

Latest Vnquish 440 water mod. Sewed the control headcover on to a Minelab cap and use it like a Detectorpro headhunter pirate metal detector (electronics in the headphone). 1st test water hunt, works great, not much loot though, just 4 quarters, and 2 pulltabs...the beach was clean! Ken

    Fisher CZ's still the King

The coil is a concentric stock 8" coil. Settings are, 0 discrimniation, sensitivity 6-7. Batteries fully charged. sweeping speed normal, not too fast, not too slow. don't know the vintage of two machines, as I purchased them online, but the original CZ6a was purchased in 2001. Maybe they're too...

    Fisher CZ's still the King

Don't know if I'm doing anything wrong. But I have 3 CZ5 and CZ6a. Over the years have tested all of them for depth with a silver dime. Air test never goes more than 8-9"; in the ground it's 6". Yet I keep hearing and reading all the CZ owners say they find coins down to 12-14", silver dimes...

Anyone modify a vanquish making it waterproof yet?

Finally , got it done. Couldn't find a suitable stem handle, so I just cut off the control box and made up a bracket attachment. Extended the cable by 3 ft, works fine. I can throw the control box in a small back knapsack/bag , and hunt by sound , did everything above iron. ken

    CZ6a Lemons?

I have 2 CZ6a's , both bought used. They don't go as deep as what I read on the metal detecting forums (12" in air, 10" in ground on a dime). In air, both detect a dime at 9". But in the ground, both detect it only to 6"I Sent one to Nasa Tom for re=calibration. Came back, still only goes 9"...

What are your beliefs about metal detector? Old Tech VS New?

Yep, you said it! I'm still using the Fisher CZ6a I bought 2nd hand in 2001. It's great for what I use it for, shallow modern "junk" clad coins (Canadian) and the occasional silver /gold jewellery piece. zero discriminate, all metal. Basically I use it for relaxation and breaking up the...

What are your beliefs about metal detector? Old Tech VS New?

One of the best youtube videos is "Metal Detecting NYC" by Merrill; he tells it like it is, and test all the new detectors. One of the best video was the one where he detected with 3 other guys, ALL using the super detector ML Nox 800 with the large coil at the time. He detected a deep target...

What are your beliefs about metal detector? Old Tech VS New?

The only big advantage is the new detectors go much deeper. Target separation is better , but still can get fooled by iron and trash. Target ID is a lot fancier (with the numbers) but still inherently just as "inaccurate". When you boil down to it, in order NOT to miss anything good (like gold)...

Took my old CZ7a out the other day, can't believe it still gets coins where i have hunted with 4 or 5 other detectors, even the XP Deus 1.

I still have my CZ6a since 2001, no need to upgrade to the super duper NOx's, Legends, Manticore Deus ...just bunch of confusing programs and hi-tech bells and whistles; you still end up digging everything in order not to be missing gold or iron-masking-a-good target...the target ID #'s are...

    Any CZ-5 users?

I still swing my CZ5 since 2001, don't see any reason to upgrade to the new digital detectors. The CZ5 is by all intents and purposes, a multi-frequency machine (dual frequency 5 Khz and 15 Khz), handles regular soil and saltwater not many older machines can do that. It detects all types of...

Anyone modify a vanquish making it waterproof yet?

I plan to try . It won't be completely waterproof, but should work for shallow water wading. Plan is as follows: 1) extend the coil cable to 7 ft. ( bought the connectors and cable ...need to solder them yet, waiting to make up a soldering gig) 2) disconnect the control box and throw it in a...

Truthfully, the difference in most detectors

As one gets older and older, another criteria becomes important....the overall weight! ha ha... Seriously, the only difference between these modern detectors is the depth capability. Any seasoned detectorist would hunt fully open, no discrimination, and dig everything above iron; so how...

    CZ 6a re-calibrate

As I posted previously, my CZ can only go 8-9" in air test on a dime. After seeing posts by many that their CZ goes to 10" "in the ground"; I sent it off to Nasa Tom for a recalibrate and tuneup. Just got it back, and was quite disappointed; no improvement , still 8 1/2" on air test, 6" in...

    CZ6a tuneup

Anyone knows where I can have my CZ6a tuned up /recalibrated? Seems to have lost some depth and ID. Eg, buried a dime at 7". It can see it , but ID as iron; proper ID is only at 5" Ken
