    yesterday's haul

Picked up some Canadian clad, including a 42 penny and 43 dime. There's another silver toe ring, a few baubles and a flat piece of .925, a bit of a mystery. Theres also a bit of root with a bullet that looks like it tumbled into it.

Ace found me a Dutch coin today...

Found a bunch of coins today. Lots of silver dimes, a few nickles, pennies and this Dutch 1 guilder coin (1972) Kinda topped off my day... btw, it is not gold, it's silver. Blame it on the lighting..

    Beach hunting tips?

I plan to use my Ace 250 at the beach at low tide. I have some questions. I understand that the Ace is not the best machine in the wet sand environment and can produce a lot of false signals. I also understand that I can overcome them by reducing the sensitivity just to the point where false...

    another Ace quirk?

Just how much stock should I put into the depth indicator? It seems to me that the depth changes with the tone. Sweeping the same target, often times the tone will jump from pulltab to coin, and the depth will change from 2 to 4 inches in sync with the tone change. As well, foil will often tell...

Quirks, or is it warranty time?

Regarding the pinpointing function on my Ace 250. Most of the time it works, sometimes with quirks. When I pp my target, as I sweep, I center the scale moving left to right, then pull the detector back towards me until the sound quits. That puts the target (standard coil) between the two...

went back to the park today and....

found some interesting things. A Mexican peso coin. About as rare as finding a 1 franc coin. The wing thing is interesting. Looks like it belongs to some airline. And the watch.. hmmm.. wonder if it will run again... the little car runs ( like a deer ) and note the 50 cal fired bullet. All in...

    All things Tumbly...

I am looking for suggestions regarding a tumbler to clean coins etc. I used to have a small plastic rotary tumbler, but it bit the dust (so to speak) a long time ago. What works best? What are they worth? and where in Canada is a good place to buy? Any suggestions regarding the process would be...

    Canadian Detector? :canadaflag:

Just wondering. Is there a detector with discrimination and tuning for Canadian clad? Is it reliable? Are any of the American made machines able to truly identify American coins? I use the Ace 250 and dig just about everything as it is, but still... I wonder..

whatzit called in your neck of the woods???

Ok, so some of you that have been in the hobby for some time must have come up with other descriptive language for going out metal detecting as 'metal detecting', 'md'ing, 'scrubbing or 'sweeping. 'Honey, I'm going out metal detecting now, don't hold dinner'.... doesn't really roll off the...

time for my monthly dumb question...

are all gold rings/jewelry stamped with the karat value? or some other stamp? I've found two identical rings that appear to be gold, but no markings...they are made from two possible gold wires that are twisted together and 'soldered' at two places. I'll try to get some pics up for viewing.

    wet sand woes

I took my Ace to the beach the other day to do some sweeping when the tide was out. I didn't seem to have any trouble finding pull tabs, bottle caps and foil etc, (not to mention, a hefty 26 cents) but the depth always indicated max. Is that normal for wet sand? Does anyone have any advice to...

    whats with wheat pennies?

Just wondering... it appears that 'wheat pennies' seem to be a desirable find. I have found lots on Canadian soil. My question is, what makes them special? the year? the mint? Just wondering...
