Review of coiltek 10x5 with Equinox 900

Well-known member
I recently picked up the Coiltek 10x5" and hunted with it at a park (1921) with a small pond. I have hunted all around this park and made wonderful old coin finds with the Equinox 800 with 11" stock coil. Within the last year, I have focused on a grassy area on the side of the pond. This area is tough hunting as it is loaded with lead weights, hooks, pull tabs, bottle tops, aluminum, old silverware and iron bits of junk from picnics and other early activities over the last 100+ years. Last year I used the 11" stock coil on the Equinox 800 and found clad, numerous wheat cents, and a close to a dozen silver dimes. Fast forward to the Equinox 900 and the Coiltek 10x5". I feel between the much better separation abilities of the 900 and the smaller footprint of the Coiltek 10x5", it is a winning combination. The Coiltek was my answer to squeezing out (in approx 6 hours) another 20 wheaties, and 5 silvers, a flat button and a silver ring. If you are looking for a coil to work in iron / trashy environments, consider the Coiltek 10x5" for your Equinox.

Well done Jimmy! I have used the 6" coil on my 600 and Leave the 11" on the 900. I haven't got in much hunting this years due to the drought.
Sorry to hear this Ted. Let’s be hopeful the rain will arrive in your areas Then you can get out back out and show us more fine treasures.

Very impressive results with that small coil and the 900 Jim!!
Glad to see you are back on action after being laid up for the last few months recovering from your foot surgery.
Hopefully you can make up for lost time before cold weather sets in…

Way to pound the silver Jimmy. Congrats and on the nice wheat harvest as well. The ring and button are also sweet saves. Good to hear you're impressed with the 10x5. I got one when they first came out and like you hit a Walker and multiple silver on its first outing. After 40 or so I hunts I sold it. Kinda wish I had hung onto it to try it on the 900. I'm reading alot of 900 users are loving the 10x5. Good luck. Mark

Thanks Mark! The 10x5” coil definitely has proved itself to be very useful in iron / trash infested environments. You may want to revisit the coiltek 10x5” on the 900. To me it is a dynamite combo.

Great coin finds !

I wish that I'd stored the settings that a user somewhere posted for the 5x10 Coiltek for using on the Equinox 800 back before the 900 came out. It was a killer setting for finding surprised, missed, shallow coins in my old, dead, hunted out spots here. I recall that the recovery speed was set to 7 and the sensitivity was modest, maybe 19-20 been too long. I now have the XTPro and still own the 5x10 Coiltek. So, it will be interesting to test the XTPro at recovery set at 3, its maximum, and vary the sensitivity lower, hunting the old worn out areas I have close by.

The 5x10 coil is a nice coil to have working on the XTPro!

I think a coil size about 10x5 is useful on about any detector.
Way back when I was using the Garrett 2500 GTI, I discovered the utility of the 5x10 coil. It became my absolute favorite on that machine and I have since gravitated toward the smaller elliptical coils on any machine I'm using. They're almost always lighter and always give better separation than the stock coils.
