Some people like less numbers some more numbers. Relic hunters seems to favor lest numbers. because of my age an other things,I don't hunt salt water beaches or relics. Ive always used a detector with o - to 99 vdi. I have a legand coming. but I thing I can get use to the 0 - 60 vdi. sense you have played with the simplex lite how do you like it an does it have very good depth? Ive been looking at it for a possible fresh water hunting machine. Does your user name mean your from tx? For I'm in texas also.

The only thing I don't like about my Legend.
Is small gold comes in low numbers.
Earrings rang 14-16.
And everything else is in lower numbers as well.
Unlike any of my other machine's.

Ive been a jewelry hunter, water an land, for 30 years. Best detector ive ever had, an still have it,is my DFX. just getting too heavy for my 78 year old arms and shoulders. Ill be getting the lg 24 coil very soon for the legand anyway I hope I don't miss the 0 _ 99 vdi too much.
the Simplex is a great machine and goes as deep as I need here. Yes, I am in the Dallas area. Where abouts are you located?
I don't believe you'll miss the 1-99. The more you have the jumpier they are and I find simultaneous multi freq is more jumpy to begin with. Numbers are mostly for cherry pickers and entertainment. Many things can make them vary so they're often times misleading. They do give you more info if you see them jumping. If s detector has different tones I usually run all metal (especially it I can adjust where the tones change) and go by sounds. I seldom notch but sometimes will to eliminate a constantly 'trash' signal in an area.

Put two targets close to each other and sweep over them. Would 10x as many numbers give me more resolution? I once dug a deep pull tab with my T2 that gave quarter numbers. Would twice as many VIDs have helped there? Sometimes deep coins give iron numbers. Would a machine with 500 VID numbers help? My Omega 8500 gives VIDs with a decimal point. I don't think it gives me more resolution than my Legend. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I’ll second that, in my 70’s and the weight does make a difference, can really tell the difference with my detectors, also use the LG26 coil
I miss the 0-99 scale….I’m not sure if the resolution is any better, but the numbers coming up are more finite….I hunt a lot by tone, but when targets that are different, but are close and in the same range come up, it’s nice to have a larger scale to double check..For example…A dime and a penny are very close number wise on the Legend….You can get easily fooled….Go to a 0-99 range and there will be a clear difference as there will be a 1 or2 number difference…..It’s a matter of preference also
