Dunno if this counts

Hi, been detecting since around 1990. I go through spells where I’m heavy into it, and then spells where I don’t seem to find the time. So in the 35 years or so doing this, never found a diamond stud earring. I am an electrician for a municipality in MA, and one of the school admin women had lost her earring while outside cleaning up the winter damage to her yard. WE have talked a lot, and she knew I detected, so she asked if I could try to find it for her. She had found the backing in the front yard, and so assumed the earring was also there. I hit the front yard for 2 hours after work on a Friday, and then went home when it was getting dark and had started to rain. I returned the next morning, and thought I would try the side yard to rule it out. I did find the earring there, but to reference the title of this post, I found it with my eyes, while swinging the detector. So maybe it doesn’t count or belong here, but she was VERY happy. It was a diamond stud earring with a jacket. I had no idea what a jacket meant, but my wife was happy to explain it to me. :)

Nice return I’ve had a few one coworker lost her husband then lost her engagement ring I came right over and within 20 minutes I had found it in her yard she had no idea where she lost it so it was a relief that I was lucky to find it quickly..

That feeling when you get to return something that important to them, is like a drug.

Post diamonds are always a challenge to find. There is so little metal to detect. A few years ago I was contacted by someone who lived in an apartment complex, on the the second floor. He said that he had a 1 Kt diamond post ear ring that bounced off of his railing and into the grass below. I have both a Whites DFX and a V3i and know ow to use each. At first, I tried the V3i with a 4x6 shooter coil but the yard was exteemly trashy so I pulled out my pinpointer , sat on the ground and systematicaly covered the area digging EVERY target. After about a half hour of digging small pieces of foil , aluminum and rusty screws and nuts I found a post ear ring with a chip of a diamond. At first I thought - this couldn't possibly be what I was looking for. I showed it to the man who lost it and he identified it as my quest and with a big smile on his face put a $100 bill in my hand and I was on my way. Best of luck and...

Yeah, she brought out the remaining earring, and I had to crank the sensitivity to max to get any kind of a decent signal on it. So I found it, but i dunno if I can take that one off of the bucket list. I have found MANY earrings at the beaches, but no stud ones. Well at least I still have something to shoot for. :)
