Old corroded ring stamped with 18K

I found this ring in the middle of the woods near an old stone foundation. Rang up 80-90s on the Manticore. My dad swore it was just a piece of copper pipe until I found a stamp on it. Which makes even less sense. Debated cleaning it up more but wanted to find out some more info if possible.

Found one quite similar in an old city park here in Pittsbugh. Stamped 18K. Someone had a racket selling gold plated rings around here back in the day. Still a cool find, congrats.

over the years I have found several of these. From what I understand is these were ring sold to many of the early farmers from door to door sales person and were less money as they didn't get into town much and wanted to get married. some figured they were real, but they were not. they looked real good to fool many as many didn't know the difference. and the ones I have found also says 18K Like many said it read too high and real one normally didn't get corroded like this one. If in doubt show it to a jeweler. It is a nice find from the past.
