Hi all,

Just sorting out some rocks if you have some time.

Trying to figure out these rocks. for the first one, seems to look like Pegmatite?

The bottom one could be schist, cant seem to find anything that looks close to it?

Thanks for your help

I would say you are probably correct on the pegmatite. Schist is a lower grade (less metamorphosed) metamorphic rock, and the mica flakes tend to rub or flake off in little shiny flakes. Gneiss is a higher grade (more metamorphosed) metamorphic rock characterized by variations in color (mineral) banding. Your second picture looks more like a gneiss to me. BTW, it is pronounced “nice”, which makes for a number of geology jokes…. 😄

Thanks for the feedback. When i put the second image into AI, its screaming that its petrified wood. But again, i cant find any similar examples. Ill look into gneiss a bit more
