Pro v Elite.

Has anybody done any depth tests between the two machines on the same targets, particularly at the beach on the wet sand??
I have the Pro and bought the 15x12 for it.......great on the beach depth wise, but if the Elite gets a couple of inches more i'm willing to upgrade.
Cheers guys.

Not on the beach but in good ground they are the same with the 12 inch coil. I sold the Elite and have 2 Pros one I keep the stock coil and one the Coiltek 5x10 on. In the past on the classic X-Terra I found that the Coiltek 15 was only good for more coverage no depth advantage.

Thanks for that bud.....i sort of had the same with the 15x12 coil......quite a gain in air depth testing but on the wet sand that advantage was wiped out a bit, still a small inprovement though and coverage is great.I was wondering if the loss in the sand may have been down to the single frequency and if the multi would help the coil punch down closer to the depth i air tested it at.
However if the machines are about the same in good ground i doubt there would be a big advantage on the beach......i may stick with the pro,it's deep anyway but we are always looking for a few extra inches are'nt we.😁

I am in no way condemning the Elite, but I am not so sure I'll keep it. I bought one a while back (the expedition package) but the jury is still out. I haven't had time to actually use the xterra, but to practice some with it and comparing it to the Minelab Safari, which has been one of my favorite detectors overall for relic hunting and beach hunting. First off, the xterra beats the Safari hands down as far as weight and compactness, but this is just about where it begins and ends. In comparing the two on the very same targets, the Safari outperforms the xterra elite on just about every target. On a lead 3 ring Minnie ball, the Safari will read it with a maximum of up to 12'. 7' maximum on the Elite. So on, so forth. I bought the Elite to try for the lightweight, and it does have some nice features that the Safari doesn't. Being waterproof, the backlight, vibration, and again being lightweight. I don't get a chance to go hunting nearly as often as I used to, and when I am able to go, I want the best advantage to be successful. Again, I'm not bashing the xterra, this is only my personal opinion as to what I have found thus far.

Thanks Confetrit, your post is much appreciated.By the sounds of it switching to the elite may not be of any advantage.I'm getting good depth with the pro and 15x12 anyway so I might just stick with it.....12 inches on a quarter in the wet sand with a very good two way signal so I think it will go a good few inches deeper than that......I will have to do another depth test to see what it maxes out at.👍

I have no problem hitting 3 ringers or coat buttons at 12 inches with the X-Terra Pro. Still not found any at 15 inches like the old X-Terra 70 with the 10.5 DD 18.75 though!
Yes,im impressed with the depth and i will test it to its maximum when im next down the beach.......as i ssid,i was getting a measured 12 inches on a quarter with a very positive two way signal ,(15×12 coil) so i assume it will hit another good few inches with a diggable signal.I thought the Elite might punch slightly deeper but reading the comments i'm not so confident now.I get more impressed with the Pro every time i take it to the beach.👍

That is quite a difference in performance between the XTE and the Safari.
I would have thought it would have been more comparable.
And I am assuming the Safari has the 10” or 10.5” stock coil verses the 12”x 9” on the XTE?

I was back at the beach today so i took my quarter with me to see where the 15x12 maxed out on depth.14 inches was a good practical signal,ie,would have picked it up as i walked along sweeping my coil at normal speed.Settings used were sensitivity 20,recovery 1,dp tones and ground tracking.Sensitivity at 20 was a good stable setting......22 was still fairly stable but didn't seem to make the signal any stronger.
I re-buried the quarter at 16 inches but i could only get the sightest response if i brushed the sand with the coil and because i knew it was there.....going over it at normal sweep speed it would have been missed. So a max practical depth,on my beach with settings that would allow a good signal to break through seems to be 14 inches on the wet sand on my beach with the 15x12.......i couldn't get any more practicle depth with sensitivity increases or by manually ground balancing.
I'm now wondering what the Mythtek 18 inch would be like on the beach. It's likely that i may get another inch or two on the quarter but the increase in ground coverage would be huge.Since using the 15x12 there has been a significant rise in the amount of signals im getting......mainly down to the extra ground being covered. So what about an 18 inch dustbin lid.........i did a few calculations and taking the extra coverage per sweep, sweep speed and length of session, over three hours the extra ground covered is enormous. So a bit more depth and a lot more area detected should increase the finds rates again.I'm tempted.😁

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
