A Few More Hunts Under My Belt

If you air test a nickel with the Vortex, it will read 52. I have been digging just about all 51,52, and 53 signals with the Vortex and no nickels. I did dig two silver war nickels that hit 52 and higher, but not steady. This is the Garrett forum, but the Legend is deadly and deep on nickels. 25...

A Few More Hunts Under My Belt

I have a couple of more hunts at my pounded spots with the VX9 version 2.07 and I am getting a feel for it's capabilities. I cannot stress enough on how hard my hunting spots have been "pounded". On top of heavy pressure, coins are deep. It is rare to find a silver coin less than 8 inches deep...

Official Red Book of US Coin Values

Tim, I replace my Red Book every three years. To be honest, I only sell my ratty or newer silver for melt value so the book is worthless in that scenario.

Sent my 2010 AT Pro for its second rehab

The ATPro will go down as one of the best mid priced metal detectors ever made. I have recommended this detector to a handful of people over the years and all have done well. Maybe not the deepest, but extremely accurate and easy to use. If numbers could talk, this might be Garrett's all time...

    Update on Vortex

Mark, I am from Conneaut and hunt all over Ashtabula county. I am not really up on the newest update, but the second update(2.07) really helped this detector. I can detect in the high 30's as long as it is not windy. I am in my early 70's so I am getting more picky about being comfortable while...

    Update on Vortex

Forgot one coin on this "hill" hunt. It was silver war nickel. Not bad for a short hour hunt! "

    Update on Vortex

I have now used the Vx9 for four hunts and about 10 hours. The first three hunts produced 45 coins with 3 being wheat pennies and 1 silver war nickel. Nothing more than 6 inches deep, but finding these coins gave me hope for the Vortex. The fourth hunt took me to one of the trashiest places I...

A little article i did about Dave Johnson

I had weird experience when I had one of the first T2 detectors. I was having an issue with it so I called customer service for help. I got a young lady who transferred my call. Guess who answered. Dave Johnson. Since I had one of the first T2's, Dave gave me the entire history of it's...

Here's A List (not complete) Of All Garrett Metal Detectors Produced Since 1964

Wow, if a "Garrett person" tried them all, he would have gone broke!

    New Vortex vx 9

Been waiting for some ground to thaw here in northeast Ohio. Yesterday my south facing front lawn was somewhat unfrozen and took the Vortex for a quick spin. I ran it wide open with no filters in zero mode. Ps, one of the best detectors I have used for quick adjustments. Super easy! I have...

The VORTEX Is Getting Ripe.....I See A New Forum Off In The Distant Horizon

John, I just picked up a so-called used v-9 and did the 2.07 update yesterday. I am not as dedicated as you so I will have to wait the unusually bad Ohio winter out to give it a go. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is going to be a nice detector. At first glance, it is well built and has a...

Shipped My Gold Today To Cash In

John, I have used ARA for years and they are the best I have found. Thanks for posting. It might help some people out.

    Found and returned today....

Great job Felix! Acts like this helps the hobby. PS Years ago, I did find a similar change purse. It was green and had Little Orphan Annie on it. It was pre 1964 and had a silver quarter, two silver dimes, three wheats, and an old Jefferson nickel. I wish it could have been from a 100 years earlier.

    Any Videos of Updates

I know Garrett delayed shipping the Vortex until the new updates were added. I have not heard exactly what these updates are and I have not seen any videos of them. Does anyone have any information? Thanks!

    Vortex Bang for Buck

I am hoping the Vortex will perform on par with the Legend and Nox. At 599, I am not expecting it to compete with Deus 2 and Manticore. The last American company to compete with Minelab was the Whites v3 series. I always found that detector to equal the Explorer series. It was complicated, but...

So, $599 for the top-o-the-line vortex. to me that sounds pretty reasonable....

Mark, I am anxiously waiting to see it in the places we hunt(parks, schools, and fairgrounds) I already am seeing negative feedback which I don't think is deserved. Again, lets see if it can compete with others in this price range. One thing for sure is that it is not overly complicated. I for...

As Is Typical For Garrett, The New Storm Release Will Be A New metal Detector Series

Unlike some people on the forum, I am a fan of Garrett detectors. I have owned many over the years and all performed up to my expectations and were well built. I really like the Apex, but it did lack a couple of inches of depth compared to the foreign detectors. I found it to be a very accurate...

    3 silver day

We are going to get rid of "clad" if you keep having days like this. Great day of detecting!
